WEEKLY UPDATES: A FEW STEPS FORWARD…

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

A great week!  I read and reviewed three books, all of which I enjoyed; I wrote five blog posts; and I immersed myself in the Inauguration Day activities.

The Queen’s Gambit is on my Netflix queue, and even though I don’t really watch chess, I am intrigued by this show.

Let’s grab some coffee and take a look at the details of the week.

That was my week!  I did enjoy all of my books…and especially felt the relief that came on January 20 with the Inauguration.  Here is a shot of #46 signing some executive orders to help our beleaguered country during these difficult times.

  1. I’m so happy all this political nightmare is over. Now it’s time to get our country back on track and moving forward.

That Kamala book looks interesting. I wonder if she will eventually write a memoir about her experience as VP?

I haven’t seen The Queen’s Gambit, but I’m very tempted. I keep hearing good things about it. Kamala’s Way sounds interesting. I just put in an order for her memoir with my local indie tonight along with a Who is Kamala Harris? book for my daughter. I hope you enjoy all your new books!

I was able to watch the Inauguration and teared up so many times. I feel like a heavy weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I think many of us feel that way, don’t we?

I hope you have a great week!

  3. I’m happy your week was good. Those look like some very good books, I hope you enjoy them all. Jill Shalvis is amazing and I hope you’ll love her book. I’ve heard a lot of people loved The Queen’s Gambit and I hope you will too. I hope you have a great week

  4. The new Lisa Gardner, I want it, I’ll have it next week and can’t wait to start reading it !! I’m not much into chess – in fact, not at all- but I really did love The queen’s gambit, it was original and the actress did a wonderful job, the atmosphere and lighting was excellent too. Have a great week 🙂

You had a much more productive week than what I had and it sounds as if you are in good spirits. Yea!!

Some great books you’ve got. Hope this upcoming week will be good too. I also have no idea about chess, but I still enjoy The Queen’s Gambit a lot.

    Stay safe!

  6. I’ve never played chess but I really enjoyed The Queen’s Gambit. Intriguing is how I would describe it. I though the actress who played the main character did a phenomenal job. I have the Shalvis and Gardner books on my wish list. Have a good week, Laurel!

I am really hopeful for the new Government change in the US too. I have been meaning to The Queen’s Gambit for a while. Have a great reading week ahead.

  8. Even though it isn’t my country, I was so relieved to see the Inauguration go off peacefully. And a bit bemused that the outgoing President apparently couldn’t see that his behaviour simply smacks of being a very sore loser.

I also have The Queen’s Gambit in my To Be Watched queue – my son highly recommends it. And I hope the coming week is one where you can relax and enjoy your books and TV a bit more, Laurel:)).

    1. Thanks, Sarah, and unfortunately for our Country—and even the rest of the world—the behavior of that Narcissist in Chief…and Sore Loser…affected a lot of people.

I like that I began watching The Queen’s Gambit, and I hope to keep loving it.

      Have a great week!

      1. Oh didn’t he just! And in the worst possible way!

Yes, this last week I haven’t been watching all that much TV. But The Queen’s Gambit is definitely on my To Be Watched list:)). I hope you, too, have a wonderful week.

  9. Relief describes exactly how I felt watching the inauguration. So happy it’s all behind us an we can now move forward, I hope. Kamala’s Way has my attention. I’m going to check out that book.

I hope you have a great week! Enjoy your books!

  10. I enjoyed the inauguration a lot. It’s a relief to have adults in charge again. You got some really GREAT books this week, read some great ones. At least the cookies I made are delicious. And I’m laughing over all the Bernie mitten memes.

  11. I was at work and had no way to watch the inauguration but I am so glad that we have moved past that and work can start to be done. You had a fantastic week of reading! I hope you enjoy all of your new books. Happy reading!

  12. I really need to get back to The Queen’s Gambit! I started watching it a few months ago, and then The Crown came out and I switched to that, and I just haven’t switched back yet. Lately, though, I haven’t been that interested in watching much TV (other than the Inauguration–and the whole family is sucked into WandaVision).

    1. There were so many hilarious lines in Rachel to the Rescue. A great book for those who like seeing Trump put in his place, lol.

Thanks for visiting Shelleyrae, and having Biden and Harris safely in office has been the best feeling! Enjoy your week.

  13. I watched the inauguration for hours! I felt like a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders as soon as Biden and Harris were sworn in. Rational adults are in charge again. I may not agree with every decision they make over their term, but at least I’ll know those decisions have been thoughtfully made instead of just being knee-jerk lies and temper tantrums.

    Enjoy your week!

  14. Yay for the new professionals in office! I’m excited, too, but I didn’t watch any of the proceedings. I haven’t delved into The Queen’s Gambit yet, either. I’m always behind! I’ve been seeing a lot of mentions of At the Edge of the Haight, and I might add that one to my groaning TBR.

Great post Laurel. I’m glad you had 3 good reads last week. I’d like to get to The Push though it looks a bit intense — was the Wife Upstairs better? The U.S. feels so much better these days … with an adult in charge of the gov’t. Biden is off to a good start! But the GOP is still killing us, still beholden to the ex-loser in chief.
We enjoyed The Queen’s Gambit … though I have no interest in chess either … but the story & character is good! The Kamala book looks good too … enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks, Susan, I don’t think we’ll ever separate the GOP from Trumpism! So disgusting.

      I am glad I enjoyed The Queen’s Gambit…

I loved both The Wife Upstairs and The Push…but I think The Push won out a little bit.

I am definitely happy about having adults in the WH….and truth-tellers running things.
