WEEKLY UPDATES: A DIFFICULT WEEK…

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon and The Sunday Post for weekly updates.

Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

What a week! I did read and review three books and wrote six blog posts. Otherwise, the week had its challenges. On Sunday, I fell down outside while carrying heavy packages from the mailbox. I have aches and pains as a result, and yesterday I discovered a very large, ugly bruise on my upper arm. Wow! Otherwise no harm no foul. But then my granddaughter, with whom I spent some time this week, tested positive to COVID! She is home and doing okay, thanks to having had the vaccine, with one booster. I had two boosters, and because I have had no symptoms, I am feeling okay. But I did take the nasal swab test, which was negative.

I spent time viewing on my laptop and finished all the available episodes of The Offer.

Not a bad week overall, therefore.

Now let’s take a closer look at the week.

Sorry about your fall and hope the pain subsides quickly. Hopefully Fiona will recover quickly as well. You had a good reading week. I started It All Comes Down to This on audio yesterday and I’m enjoying it

    1. Thanks, Greg, I am hoping I don’t develop any symptoms and that my “negative” test results are telling the whole story.

I was stunned at the fall! On the sidewalk, with nothing to pull up by. But a neighbor came by and gave me a hand. That was the good part.

I am sending positive energy to my granddaughter, wishing she gets well quickly. She is posting on FB and texting, so I’m feeling hopeful.

      1. Funny story- I fell at the bowling alley once. Years ago. Let the ball go, I guess the floor was slippery (ha ha), and down I went! Happened so fast. It happens. 🙂

        Have a great Sunday!!

  2. Heavy packages require sturdy rubber bottomed shoes and several trips versus one. Glad you are okay and hope granddaughter gets well without complications. Happy reading week. Hope some of those packages were books!

    1. Thanks, Harvee, I was wearing my boots, which are pretty sturdy…but the mail was too much! The worst part: the Amazon packages, which they usually leave at my door, but were in the mailbox instead. Very clumsy, with all the junk mail, too. Sigh.

      Next time, more trips!

We had our very first COVID scare in our family since this all started, after one of my colleague tested positive. We tested negative (twice this week) but we quarantined just to be sure. Am I paranoid? Maybe, but better safe than sorry. And masks have been slipping up around here too. I hope you heal and feel better soon.

    1. Thanks, AJ, I haven’t done more than the one test, primarily because I have no symptoms and feel okay (except for the fall!). But I am alert and ready to take more tests if necessary.

      Enjoy your week!

  4. So sorry about your fall and I’m very relieved you didn’t break anything! I swear by arnica cream for bruises – it’s fantastic for lessening the length and pain of the bruising. And I am very much hoping your granddaughter gets through her bout of Covid with the minimum of discomfort and symptoms! Here’s hoping the coming week is a LOT less difficult:).

  6. Oh Laurel-Rain, I am so sorry that you had such a bad week. But like Shakespeare said, All’s well that ends well. I hope you feel better from your fall soon. Do take it easy and be kind to yourself.

You had a good blogging week and some great books to read! I hope your new week will be disaster free and filled with great books.

  7. Wow, you really had some week. I hope you’re feeling better after your fall. I know how painful those can be. I’m glad you tested negative for Covid.

Your books look good especially the Nancy Thayer book. I hope you have a better week!

  8. Ugh, sorry about the fall! I had one similar to that a couple years ago, actually right before the pandemic started, and I don’t think my ankle healed up right because I didn’t really do anything for it since I was just home for the next several months. And it still aches and causes problems. Oh well, I hope you have a better week and get to feeling better!

    1. Thanks, Lisa, I should have been more alert as I stumbled along with all those packages, trying to keep everything in tow!

I am really still mad at Amazon for loading the packages into my mailbox instead of at the front door, which is usually what they do, LOL.

  9. What a lovely gift! Sorry to hear about the fall but so glad you didn’t break anything. I hope the bruise fades quickly and the aches and pains are short lived. Looking forward to your thoughts on the new Thayer!

    1. Thanks, Mary, that sidewalk felt really hard, when I went down! I didn’t even notice the bruise, though, until yesterday, and was surprised at how big and dark it was! LOL

The doll was a nice surprise, and Fiona always knows how to put a smile on my face.

  10. OMG first of all love that Anne of Green Gables doll. Oh no when we bump or fall we do more damage than younger ones, thank goodness it wasn’t worse but bad enough. Hope that double booster keeps you Covid free, should do. Love the look of all your incoming books this week.

    1. Thanks, Kathryn, I adore the doll. It came at the right time, too, just when I was feeling a bit smashed up.

But the Covid news was unexpected, since we have all been so vigilant with our vaccines. However, those variants can definitely break through. Let’s all try to stay safe!

  12. Ouch, I hope the aches and bruise fades quickly.
I’m sorry to learn your granddaughter has CoVid, I hope she recovers well, and you continue to test negative. I have a bad cold at the moment and feel awful, it’s a strong reminder to avoid CoVid at all costs!

Wishing you a great reading week

  13. Oh dear, that was a tough week! I’m sorry to hear about your fall and hope the bruise, as well as the aches and pains, improve quickly. I hope Fiona’s covid continues to be mild and she is ready to spend time with you again soon. Fowler’s new novel looks good… I’ll keep an eye ut for your review.

  14. Gosh, yes, that is a rough week. I fell just before I went to France, and then I fell while I was in France. I thank goodness that it was just bruises and no broken bones. I hope you will heal up quickly and have no more falls.

And your granddaughter tested positive for Covid. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you that you do not get this.

Your incoming books look very promising.

    1. Thanks, Deb, my fingers are crossed, too, and the fall left me bruised and a little achy, so that’s not too bad. Embarrassing, though! Falling down outside. But being outside saved me from having to lie there very long…help came along!

I hope you enjoy your books and your week.
