After my Prague son returned home, and after the wonderful outings and activities were over, I had to return to something resembling my routines. I did read and review two books and write four blog posts. I cleaned, did laundry, and spent some time watching shows on my laptop and my TV. The house was too quiet!
I discovered an old series I used to love called Garage Sale Mysteries, and found myself caught up in it, almost as if I had never seen these episodes. I also listened to Ronan Farrow’s podcast Catch and Kill…and the additional parts of the documentary Allen vs. Farrow. These extra episodes of the show were very interesting.
So here I am on a Saturday wondering what to read or do next. Next week, I will resume having coffee with an old friend…we’re going to Barnes & Noble, an old hangout we haven’t visited in a while.
Now…let’s take a closer look at my week.

That was my week. Empty house, an attempt to resume my routines, and a little bit of angst about moving on from what was a wonderful family time. Now I look forward to recreating my usual life, while remembering those wonderful bonding days. Below, my No. 2 son celebrated his birthday with two of his adult children at a Dodger’s game.

The hellos, followed by the goodbye. It always strikes me as something that touches our hearts and rightly so when we value the people we love and have just spent time with. Sounds like a good trip planned to Barnes and Noble next week. Enjoy it.

Thanks, Kathryn, I have learned that, in order to get over the sad goodbyes, it is important to choose something to do that is uplifting, like coffee at a favorite bookstore. Enjoy your week.

Thanks, Elizabeth, it has been especially hard seeing my eldest son go back to Prague, as I hadn’t seen him for three years. But he is hoping to visit again next year, this time with his wife.
I am looking forward to Barnes & Noble…haven’t been there in a long while.
Enjoy your week!

Enjoy the visit at B&N. I took my granddaughters there last week – so much fun. I also wanted to let you know I listened to Left on Tenth over the weekend. Thanks for recommending! I was able to download the audio from my library. Ephron read it which made it all the more interesting.

I feel a bit of sadness now that I have returned home from visiting my son in Chicago and my son in North Texas. We had such a good time together. I wish so much that we lived closer. I bet you do, too.
But it is nice to return to our routines. You read some great books, and now you have your bookstore outing to look forward to. I want to go to B&N soon, too.

Thanks, Deb, I am grateful for the routines that fill in those empty spaces after our loved ones return to their homes and lives. But it was good to have that time with them.
Enjoy your week.

For years we lived far from our boys but about 10 years ago we moved back to the Seattle area where they are and I have to say it’s SO great to live in the same time. Of course, they are busy with their lives, but I do get to spend time with them every couple months which didn’t happen when we lived further away – once every couple years was the average. So, I feel your let down when they’re gone. Thank goodness for friends and coffee! Hope you have a terrific week and find time to curl up with a good book.

It is hard when family goes home! A quiet house is a bit of an adjustment. My mom feels that way too, she lives alone and my aunts came to see hre and when they left she was lonely!
I might need to try Celeste Ng one of these days

It’s always so hard to say goodbye to family members and friends after a few days etc. together.
I think I’ve seen Garage Sale Mysteries on the Hallmark channel. I may check it out since my mom and I used to love going to garage sales. Sadly she’s gone but I still love going, although I get sad that she’s not with me. I’ve never seen anything on Hallmark that I didn’t love.

I had a quiet, but not that productive weekend. Our next family gathering time won’t be until Thanksgiving, but that’s probably going to come faster than I think! I dread the work week to come, but at least it’s only four days, since today was a Monday holiday!

Thanks, Laurie, time seems to fly, so yes, Thanksgiving will be here before we know it.
At least we can probably celebrate now. So much time was lost in 2020 and 2021.
Enjoy your week.

So nice to get the family visit … then you do have to get used to the pre-visit routine. Glad you enjoyed some series watching and some good reading.
Left on Tenth has an interesting title. I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks, Nai, I started experiencing the kids leaving once they went away to school. But usually they weren’t that far away. I will never get used to the one who is across the ocean!
Enjoy them while they are there, and maybe they will stay close to home.

Ah, a quiet house sounds wonderful!! My husband just retired, and I haven’t yet adjusted to my new shadow 🙂
I like both Picoult and Boylan, so I can’t wait to read this new joint novel. And I have never read any of Ng’s novels, so I need to get busy!
Enjoy your week and your meet-up with your friend.
