This week I read and reviewed three books…and I wrote six blog posts.  I watched a few movies that were not that memorable.

It was my birthday last Monday, and I celebrated at lunch with three of my kids and two grandsons. 

On the day after my celebration, my doll arrived!  Yes, the one I have been obsessing over and searching for. 

In the upcoming week, I have a dental appointment and my COVID booster shot has been scheduled.

For now let’s take a closer look at my week.   Below, meet the Replacement Madeline.

That was my week! What did yours look like? I enjoyed the whole birthday month…and now I’m looking forward to more good books in the week ahead. Below is another view of the newest Madeline doll and other figurines on my bookshelf.

    1. Thanks, Kathryn, it is just a cleaning at the dentist’s, which is better than a root canal, lol. I like being able to get things done, and while my son and daughter-in-law are still in town, I have a ride to these things! Maybe we’ll work in a lunch out, too.

    1. Thanks, Mary, I am glad that my son is in town to give me a ride to the dentist and my booster shot! Transportation is a big challenge for me these days.

      Enjoy your appointment. I don’t usually look forward to dental appointments, but they are outings, after all. LOL

    I’ll put Crossroads on my list. I need a real book change. I used to be able to read with my son at the local playground until I got a policy cop shooing us out of there. I’ll find a nice reading nook soon..its on my to do list.

    Aaah happy birthday! I’m so glad you got to celebrate it with family and yay for the doll! I wonder what you think of ‘Crossroads’? I haven’t actually read any Franzen yet, I always feel a little intimidated by it. I hope you have a lovely week ahead 🙂

    1. Thanks, Juli, his hefty books do intimidate me as well. It turns out that I have another of his books on my Kindle, unread. (Purity).

      There are parts of Crossroads that I enjoy more than others. But I’m plugging away.

      The doll has made me very happy! LOL

  9. I’m so glad you had a wonderful birthday with family! There’s nothing like it.

    I just started Crossroads, too, but I decided to set it aside until December so that I can focus on reading nonfiction next month. It started out very well, and it’s difficult to put it down for a whole month.

    I know you will enjoy having your doll. Glad you were able to find it.

  11. What a wonderful birthday week… and the timing of the doll’s arrival was perfect, too! I can’t wait to hear what you think of Crossroads. It took a long time for me to read it (and I was even doing a read/listen combination) but I ended up loving it! Hope the week ahead is another good one.

    1. Thanks, JoAnn, I agree that the doll arrived with perfect timing. Like it was a birthday gift!

      I am enjoying Crossroads so far, although I don’t like some of the characters, so I would like to skip certain parts. But so far, I am plodding along.

      I am glad that the story goes back and forth between the characters, so that helps.

    1. Thanks, Elizabeth, I switched arms with the booster, as I had my flu shot on the other one and it hurt for a few days!

      I am glad that the vaccines are available!

    I hope you had a great birthday …. and perhaps enjoyed a margarita?? Glad you got the new doll … looks like a perfect spot for her on the shelf. People have been saying Crossroads is good ! Hope so. Have a great week.

    1. Thanks, Susan, and yes to the margarita(s), lol. I loved the lunch with family, too, and getting that doll the day after topped things off nicely.

      I am liking Crossroads, although not raving about it yet.

      Now I am eager for my other Amazon orders to arrive, as some are running late! They are just household items, but I guess I’ll have to start reordering things sooner to avoid last minute panic.

  22. I’m so glad you had such a nice birthday week. I have one coming up this month (Nov.).
    The doll is lovely. I’m so glad you were able to find her. I don’t collect dolls per se, but I have lots of beloved “things” sitting around, and it gives me great pleasure to look at them and think of who gave them to me or when and where I bought it. Sometimes the least expensive ones have the most significance.
