WEEKLY UPDATES: MORE GOOD THINGS…

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon and The Sunday Post for weekly updates.

Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

Another week with only two books read and reviewed.  But again, they were great!  How long can I keep reading 5 star books?  My blogging suffered, though, with only five posts.

I viewed some old movies this week, and also started watching Maid, on Netflix.

No outings this week, but my youngest son and his wife are in town, and I’ve been having great visits.  I also hope to enjoy some birthday events, since October is my month.  LOL.

Another great thing:  I bought another Kindle, a Paperwhite, and I’ve just set it up.  I’m still trying to adjust to how different it is from my Oasis.

For now let’s take a closer look at my week.

Enjoy your new paper white Kindle. Mine is about 7-8 years old now but I love it. We are really enjoying the audio version of Peril. There is quite a bit of humor and shake you read moments for sure. Very well chronicled thus far at about the 80% point. Have a good week and hope your birthday month is a good one.

    1. Thanks, Diane, I had a Paperwhite a few years ago and loved it, but then, after getting used to the Oasis, I am finding myself a little clumsy in navigating the Paperwhite. I am sure I’ll adapt!

I am getting ready to start Peril!

      Enjoy your week.

Is your new Kindle different or better than your previous one? How does it differ? I still have a Kindle Fire that I use for ebooks, though mostly I still read print books since I’m old-school. Enjoy your visit with your son & have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Susan, my new one is a Paperwhite, which I had a few years ago and loved. But since I’ve gotten so used to my other Kindle, the Oasis, navigating this version of the Paperwhite is a bit clumsy for me. I guess I will get used to it!

      Enjoy your week!

  3. Both books sound good. I look forward to your review on Peril.
I got a new paperwhite also. I had one that is not really that old but wanted a new one. It was marked down on Amazon for the day so I got it. I enjoy it so much. I have a Kindle Fire tablet that is great but heavy for me to hold and read.

    1. Thanks, Linda, I didn’t realize how the Kindle cover is a necessity in order to keep the Kindle on! Who knew? It has been years since I got a new Kindle (my Oasis in 2018, I think), so I had forgotten that part.

I also messed up in registering, with my Amazon password, and had to change it just so everything would work!

Enjoy your reading and your Kindle.

Enjoy your new Kindle! I’ve had a Paperwhite for a few years now and really like it! I think I’d need quite some time to switch to an Oasis. Also, yay for 5-star reads, although this spree may indeed end at some point! ‘The Stranger Behind You’ looks promising though 😉 I hope you have a lovely weekend and enjoy your new reads!

Quality over quantity for me, Laurel, 2 great reads is so much better than half a dozen “meh” ones. 😘
Have fun with your new Paperwhite Kindle. I bought one for my Mum and after a brief time of adjustment, she has it with her ALL THE TIME now. Lol!
Hope you have another lovely week. x

I hope you have a good birthday month! September was mine, although it wasn’t all that exciting. I survived another year–so I’m grateful for that. I hope you enjoy your new Paperwhite. I am glad you are able to spend time with your son and his wife. The Stranger Behind You sounds really good. Have a great week, Laurel-Rain! Enjoy your reading.

  8. Ooh happy birthday this month! And that’s awesome you get to see your son and his wife. Hope you guys have a nice weekend. Good luck with your PAperwhite too. I like mine.

So many good books- new Moriarty, and carol Goodman I see (I read a couple of her Blythewood YA books a few years ago)…

    I need to get Peril.

  9. I love my kindle Paperwhite. It’s a few years old now and my software updated last week. The home page, settings, etc. all look slightly different, but hopefully won’t require much adjustment. Hope your 5-star reading streak continues and you enjoy the first full week of your birthday month!

  10. Just finished my birthday month! LOL Hope yours is great. I am still using my 2015 Fire. Still going strong, although it does get heavy at time and I wonder if I “need” a paperwhite. Visiting with family is such a blessing these days, I hope we don’t go back to taking that for granted.

    1. Thanks, Nise, I love birthday month! I’m glad you enjoyed yours.

I realized that I bought my Kindle Oasis in 2018, so it is still in good condition, although I had some glitches that worried me, leading to adding another Kindle as backup.

Now I am adjusting to the Paperwhite again, while also continuing to read on the Oasis.

I am loving family time, especially since it has been rare this past year.

  11. Congrats on the new Kindle! I always enjoy setting up a new device but it takes a bit to get used to them in most cases. I am glad that you were able to spend some time with your son and his family. Have a great week and happy reading!

  12. What a treat to have your youngest son in town. And during your birthday month, too. Enjoy your time with him and his wife.

You continue with your streak of five-star reads only. How long can you continue to only read five-star books? It will be fun to see how long it lasts.

I am very curious about a Paperwhite. I have a Fire and it is useless outside. I got it for reading on long trips, and it does a great job with that.

    1. Thanks, Deb, it is a treat, especially since they live at the top end of the state, so I go long periods between visits.

I am rediscovering what I liked about the Paperwhite. It feels simpler, and the edges of the device are smooth and easy to work around. (My Oasis feels clunkier, and I’ve always had issues with maneuvering).

As for outside reading, I haven’t tried that on either of my devices. I’m an indoor reader! LOL

I am curious about how long I can pick “5 star” reads! I might be on a 4 star read now, as it turns out. As much as I have wanted to read Peril, I feel bogged down, since I already know a lot of what I’m finding within the pages. But…I’m only a third of the way through.

      Enjoy your week.

    1. Thanks, Mary, and happy birthday belatedly! I also have several October birthdays with family (the same with August!). I think I read somewhere that August and October are popular birth months.

Like you, I enjoy celebrating the whole birthday month!

      Enjoy October, though.

    1. Thanks, Cheryl, I am loving my new Kindle, and adjusting to it by reading on the old one…and also on the new one. I am even adding books to the new one that I don’t add to the old one. So, that seems to be a good thing.

I love having visitors, and today I had another one from Northern California who came down as part of her road trip. We had a great lunch and a wonderful chat.

      Enjoy your week.

  13. October is a very quiet month for birthday’s in my diary, but I hope that you get plenty of celebratory surprises and that you have a great time with your visiting family.

I have two kindles, one of which is the very original one with the built in keyboard, and a much newer one, although that must be five years old now! I keep them both charged up, so that I always have one ready to read and as my books download to both machines automatically, I can even keep reading the same book. Sometimes I actually prefer the more robust feel of the original machine, but it is always the smaller version for slotting in my handbag when I go out.

I am interested in ‘The Stranger Behind You’ and I think it is going to have to make my ‘wish list’

Have a good reading week – it’s definitely quality and enjoyment, rather than quantity for me 🙂

    1. Thanks, Yvonne, I have added some of my books on both Kindles, but others are only on the new one. I also keep them both charged up.

I should consider having all my books go to both.

Enjoy your week! I am loving The Stranger Behind You.

    1. Thanks, Kathy, I started celebrating all month when I moved into the assisted living facility (which I now refer to as the “prison,” lol.) I did not like it there, and now that I am out in my own apartment and I’ve left that place behind, I see no reason not to keep celebrating all month.

      Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks, Elizabeth, and while it took a minute to adjust to the new one, I now remember why I loved my previous Paperwhite. The device is easier to maneuver and I like that the borders are smooth and manageable.

I will continue to read on the old one, too.

      Enjoy your week!

  14. Happy birthday month to you!

I’ve been thinking about getting the audio of Peril (as well as Woodward’s other Trump books), but I think things are still a bit too fresh for me. Maybe next year!
