WEEKLY UPDATES: A GOOD WEEK…

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon and The Sunday Post for weekly updates.

Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

A pretty good week, with three books read and reviewed and six blog posts written.  I stayed home all week, but I enjoyed it.  Curled up reading or binging shows on my laptop.  Amazon packages came to my door, which felt like having visitors.  Replenishing supplies and adding a new vacuum cleaner to my cleaning shelves.

There was a lot of smoke in the air, so I only walked to the mailbox twice this week.  I had a sore throat from the bad air, but today is better.  My granddaughter was planning to stop by yesterday to help put the vacuum cleaner together…yes, I am challenged when it comes to assembling things.  Or the instructions and pictorial guides are lacking.  Anyway, she had to work two shifts, so I’m still sitting here, trying to figure it out.  Usually Amazon has videos that help us put things together.  Apparently they think the task of assembling the vacuum is so easy they don’t need to do that.  Even their wine bottle openers have better videos!  LOL

I found a Coca Cola dining room set online, but it will take four weeks to arrive.  Sigh.

This morning I did a load of laundry, and it was so blissful to be able to do that without lugging anything upstairs to the self-service laundry room, like in my previous place.  They were actually supposed to do the laundry, but they washed in hot water and threw them in dryers afterwards…ruining a lot of my clothes in the beginning. So I feel blessed to have my own washer and dryer now.

There were a lot of things they were supposed to do there, like cleaning and providing edible food.  But I guess I will just stop whining…and be grateful that I’m not there anymore.

Now let’s take a closer look at my week.

That was my week.  What did yours look like?  Right now, I’m watching old movies on Netflix, like The Net, with Sandra Bullock.  I am amazed at the antiquated computers in that film!  I also enjoyed a newer film, Strange Weather, and watched more episodes of Nine Perfect Strangers on Hulu.

And here’s a glimpse of the Coca Cola dining set coming my way.  Yes, smaller than the one I used to have, but my apartment is smaller, too.

    1. Thanks, AJ, I was worried about the sore throat, wondering what it meant, but when I realized it was probably the smoke, I felt better. I can stay indoors and avoid it.

I hope we both feel better…and enjoy our books.

  1. It must feel so good to be free of that place. I’m so happy for you.

Sometimes it’s just so comforting to be home cozy and read/ binge. 🙂 And Amazon deliveries are a nice bonus!

    Take care this week!

    1. Thanks, Greg, and as much as I felt trapped when I was there, especially during the first long year of the Pandemic, it was only when I finally escaped that I felt so free!

Never again, I tell everyone. No matter what happens to me, I will not go into one of those places again.

      Enjoy your week!

  2. Much like you, I add a quiet week at home, as I rested before the return to work next week and I started suffering with my sinuses. You did make me chuckle when you said Amazon bottle openers have better instructions than your new vacuum 😆 My dad has just brought us a new vacuum too – I hope it won’t to complicated like yours!

Take care and happy reading in the coming week! 😃

    1. Thanks, Jessica, it doesn’t look that difficult to assemble until you try doing it! My granddaughter will probably not have any time to come over until later in the week, so my rug will remain dusty. I don’t see any dust, but I feel it!

When I face challenges like that, I wonder if I am ready for the free world! LOL

      Enjoy your week.

Yeah I’m so glad you’re in your own place! Sorry to hear of your smoke — I hear the fires are threatening the Tahoe area, Ugh how awful. Our air here is finally more clear – for the first time from all the BC fires. I hope your vacuum got put together. I dont like assembly either. How do you like Nine Perfect Strangers? Any good? enjoy your week.

    1. Thanks, Susan, and the vacuum still waits for my granddaughter to find time in her schedule! She had to work two shifts yesterday.

I didn’t really like the book Nine Perfect Strangers as much as Big Little Lies, but the series is pretty good. Melissa McCarthy and Nicole Kidman make it interesting.

      Enjoy your week!

  4. I also picked up the new Hepworth – will wait a while to read though. I’m caught up with Nine Perfect Strangers. Very trippy! I didn’t read it so I have no idea how closely it follows the book.

    1. Thanks, Mary, and it follows the book pretty closely, but what makes it better than the book (IMO) are the stars in it: Melissa McCarthy and Nicole Kidman are awesome!

Enjoy your Hepworth! I’ll wait a while to read it, too.

Looks like you got the vacuum that I did not. Glad you’ve found a solution for your laundry. People will take your laundry in my building so I make sure to set up booby traps, jk. ( luckily it happens here and there and not always).

    1. Thanks, Trin, having my own washer and dryer makes everything so much better! I had a situation like that in my old condo, before I went into the “prison” that was my last residence, with a washer/dryer just off the kitchen behind louvered doors. So convenient!

Now I have them in my bathroom. Again, very convenient.

  6. Reading and bingeing (can’t spell that dang word!) sound perfect to me and YASSS to your own washer and dryer. My Mom has a little laundry/storage area built right into the hallway (closed off by obnoxious folding doors) and it is so NICE to be able to fire up a load whenever you want. When I was still in my apartment I would get so mad when I’d go down to do laundry and some inconsiderate neighbor just left their clothes in the washer so I’d have to take them out in order to put my clothes in. The inconsiderate person would leave a nasty note about how inconsiderate it was to just dump their wet clothes on top of the dryer. So then we would leave a note SET YOURSELF A FRICKIN TIMER AND COME BACK AND REMOVE YOUR CLOTHES!!!! Ugh. lol Or else you’d need to do laundry and discover you were one quarter short. I could go on and on but I’m sure everyone has been there.

Hope your vacuum is up and running by now! I need to empty the dust canister on mine and clean the roller.

    1. Oh, Jinjer, I remember the years of dealing with laundry facilities and quarters! Then when I finally had an apartment with my own laundry, it was bliss.

      Now I have that again!

I am still waiting for my granddaughter to come put my vaccum together.

      Enjoy your week.

  7. You are going to love the new Coca-Cola table and chairs. I’m glad you ordered it. Life is short.

Three five-star books. That’s fabulous. And six blog posts. Wow!

My aunt and uncle are moving into a place next week that is supposed to feed them and take care of their cleaning and washing. It’s $14,000 a month. Let’s hope it works out better for them than that place you last lived!

    1. OMG, Deb, those places are a racket, IMO, but maybe some of them actually deliver what they promise.

I am just glad to have escaped, but then again, I didn’t really need to be there in the first place.

I am looking forward to the Coca Cola table and chairs. Enjoy your week.

I love the Coca Cola table and chairs. Enjoy them.

I picked up The Younger Wife from NetGalley, too. It looks good.

  9. Great that you found the table.

I would be very upset about my laundry being ruined…happy to hear you can do your own now.

How are you liking LIE BESIDE ME?

THE YOUNGER WIFE should be good.

    Have a wonderful week, Laurel.

    1. Thanks, Elizabeth, I really hated turning laundry over to a system that didn’t work for me, and even more frustrated that I was having to pay for having them done!

I love having my own washer and dryer again!

I can’t wait to read The Younger Wife. Enjoy!

  10. Sounds like everything is falling into place… and it’s great that you found another Coca Cola dining set. I know it will be worth the 4 week wait! Happy to see Sally Hepworth has a new book coming soon. Hope you have another good week in your new home!

    1. Thanks, Katherine, when I need someone to assemble something, she is the one, but she is also very busy!

I get impatient when I need something done…but I guess I will learn how to be better at it.

I’m loving Lie Beside Me. I even woke up in the middle of the night to read some more. I should finish it today.

      Enjoy your week.

    1. Thanks, Kathryn, I didn’t think about the assembly when I ordered it! I remember that I used to go in the store and buy fully assembled items! Sometimes I had the shop assemble things that they would then deliver. I guess those days are over, lol.

Enjoy your week, and yes, so glad to be away from the stinky place! Did I tell you they sent another bill for half of August, even though I paid for all of July and left on the 23rd? I have a friend who used to work in Community Care Licensing, and she says that the practice is unethical and maybe illegal, especially since I gave them a huge deposit when I moved in.

  11. Your comments about Amazon videos made me laugh, they really do have videos for everything!

Lie Beside Me sounds good to me, as does The Younger Wife. I hope you enjoy them both, have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Martha, I love being able to toss a few things in the washer instead of waiting a whole week to do everything!

I try to stay indoors most days now, as the heat and the smoke can be debilitating. Some days are better than others.

      Enjoy your week.

I’m glad you found the table set you wanted, though I’m a Pepsi Max drinker 🙂
I’m sorry to hear that you are being affected by smoke from what I presume are wildfires. I’m dreading Summer here already because the vegetation has grown back and bushfires are inevitable.

Wishing you a great reading week

    1. Thanks, Shelleyrae, I ended up ordering the smaller table with two chairs, but I think it will be just right for my current space.

I don’t actually drink Coke, lol, but I love the style of their collections. In my old condo, from more than two years ago, I had a whole room with Coca Cola stuff, from the furnishings to little collectibles and wall hangings. All gone when my daughter moved my things out! I understand she couldn’t bring everything to me in the studio apartment, but perhaps she could have put them in storage?

I have to get over it, of course, and try to replace a few things.

Enjoy your week, and I will try to stay indoors in the heat and on the smoky days.

I like the new Cola set, and hopefully it will fit into your space nicely! And I think you have every right to complain a bit about the previous place 😉 I have also been very curled up with books, even though I’ve been out and about technically by traveling as safely as possible. I hope you have a lovely week, ‘The Younger Wife’ looks like a great spin in Jane Eyre 🙂

    1. Thanks, Juli, and yes, the smaller table and chairs should fit nicely. My new apartment is much bigger than the studio I just escaped from, lol, but not as big as the condo I once had.

I will probably complain about the place I just left…for a long time! Especially since they are still trying to gouge me for more money, saying I should pay half of August because I didn’t give a 30-day notice! (I left on July 23, having paid for all of July). I don’t think they’re supposed to do that in an assisted living facility, according to a friend of mine who worked for licensing.

My kids are telling me not to pay! Brave, right?

      Have a good week!

  14. I’m so sorry to hear that you are still dealing with smoke. Normally, our skies are orange right about now, but we’ve lucked out with the wind direction so far. Others are not as lucky–My friend lost her second home in Greenville, CA in the fire. It’s just a pile of ashes now. So sad!

    1. Thanks, Melinda, some days are better than others, depending on the winds, I guess; this week hasn’t been so great.

Enjoy your reading and your freedom from smoke!

So sorry about the home losses. My heart goes out to those who have gone through that.

Your new living situation sounds so much nicer than your previous one. I’m glad you had a happy and productive week. I didn’t know that Amazon had assembly videos. I usually use my brother when I can’t do it myself. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    1. Thanks, Kathy, I used to count on my youngest son to put things together when he lived nearby. But my granddaughter still lives in town and is available, but often busy.

I keep thinking that I might find a video somewhere, but so far, no.

Enjoy your books and your week.
