WEEKLY UPDATES: LOVING THE CALM AFTER THE MOVE…

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon and The Sunday Post for weekly updates.

Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

The move is done!  My granddaughter and her partner worked quickly and had everything moved out and over to the new place by noon!  Then they helped arrange some things…and set up my Internet and TV!  These two are rock stars!!

I must admit I was tired at the end of the day, even though I did no heavy lifting at all…just directed things, lol.  But after they left, I emptied some boxes, rearranged a few things, and collected some empties to take out to the trash and recycling.  I had very little to eat all day, as I had cleared out the fridge…and didn’t want to stop moving until we were done.  Today I’m putting in a big order with Instacart, to fill my GIANT new fridge.  I am LOVING this new space.  So many cabinets, among other things!

Meanwhile, I did read and review two books this week, but only wrote three blog posts.

Now I am eager to settle into my New Normal, and couldn’t wait to dust off the stench of that old place, LOL.  No good Yelp reviews for them!

Now let’s take a closer look at my week.

So happy the move went well and that you are settling in. Thank goodness for younger spry children and grandkids. I hope to stay in my good graces with all as I can tell already I can’t do everything I use to.

Can’t wait to see whether you loved Count the Ways as much as I did.

    1. Oh, yes, I am so thankful for the young helpers! The last time I actually did a move myself (not counting the one two years ago initiated by my daughter!), it was 14 years ago and I also had movers do a big part of it. So I was quite anxious throughout this one.

But pleasantly surprised by how smooth everything went, Diane.

I’m loving Count the Ways so far.

Yaay congrats on a successful move! I’m glad it all went well and that you’ve got a new space to make your home. Also, as a technically still pry grandchild I’ve done plenty of moving/gardening/organizing duty for my grandparents and always enjoyed it 🙂 ‘Such a Quit Place’ looks like such an amazing book, I honestly need to get on it asap.

Yea to the move over and done! I hope you will enjoy your new dwellings and that we will get even more great reviews from you. You still read two great books this week.

Good luck with the upcoming week and take care of yourself!

    1. Thanks, Mary, I am loving the quiet and the space…and that much of my unpacking is done. I still have pictures to hang, but I’ll wait for Fiona…I think. Or I might put up a few, lol.

Enjoy your weekend…and I’m still loving Count the Ways.

    1. Thanks, Diana, the fridge at my old place was too tiny to fill with much of anything…but then again, meals in the dining room were included. But I had trouble with their food! LOL

      Enjoy your weekend…and your books.

    1. Thanks, Victoria, I am loving the space and the air conditioning that is so much better than the last place! I do need to buy a washer and dryer still, when my granddaughter has some time to take me shopping. Transportation is an issue still! Lyft used to work out for me, but now it isn’t that great.

I need to relax and enjoy what I do have, lol.

      Have a great week!

  5. It’s wonderful that you were able to get moved so quickly and easily. I know you will enjoy your new space, with its big refrigerator and shelves.

And you managed to get two really good books read, too. Both of them sound great.

I am eager to see photos of your new place.

    1. Thanks, Deb, I am enjoying the space and settling into it. I am in pursuit of a washer and dryer, as there are connections for them here.

I still need to hang pictures before I post photos…or perhaps I will show the space as a work-in-progress.

      Enjoy your week!

  7. That’s wonderful that you are all moved in and so quickly. I’m very happy for you. Organizing everything the way you want it can be both fun and tiring.

Good luck with everything and enjoy your new home! Have a great week!

I hope you have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Vicki, the best thing about blogging for me is finding books to read that I hadn’t even thought about…and connecting with other bloggers!

Yes, the kids and grandkids are the best!

      Enjoy your week.

  9. Oh my goodness – just a fortnight ago, you were talking about hoping to be approved. And then on this visit – you’re all moved in!!! So impressed at the speed with which this happened. It was definitely meant to be:)). And yay for having the family pitching in and helping. I hope you get a chance to put your feet up and relax amid all the unpacking and organising, Laurel:).

    1. Thanks, Sarah, I feel so lucky to have the apartment already! It might have taken a long time, so I think the universe knew how much I needed this move right now!

I have put my feet up to read and watch movies today…yesterday I shelved books. The picture hanging can wait. I’m actually hoping that my granddaughter will volunteer, lol.

      Enjoy your week!

  10. Great family meet up photo. Love the photos on FB of your new place. You’ll have to have (or maybe you did) a virtual house warming party! Wishing you every joy and happiness in this new adventure of a new place. Loved the fridge!

    1. Thanks, Marg, I was so anxious in the weeks before the move, but once we started and I saw how smoothly things went with the kids, I started to relax. And then they helped me set things up at the other end, including Internet and TV services!

Now I can really enjoy the place, slowly adding final touches.

Enjoy your week and your books.

  12. So happy to hear your move went well! Moving is always exhausting, it’s good you had all this help.
I’m waiting on my copy of the new Megan Miranda book, hopefully it gets here this week.

    Have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Erin, I am loving this part…except there are still things to add, as the rooms are bigger! I also plan to get a washer and dryer this week, as there are connections for them here. My hamper is overflowing!

      Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks, Elizabeth, I need more furniture! That sounds like something for the future, though, as I need to get things like a washer/dryer, etc. And finish paying off the moving bills. I couldn’t believe that the old place is charging me for half of August, since my thirty day notice was not thirty days ahead of the move. Well, I didn’t find the apartment until halfway through July, and I wasn’t about to pass it up! Half of a month there is more than a whole month here, so once we get into the next month, things will be good.

But it will be crunch time for a bit.

      Enjoy your week.

  13. CONGRATULATIONS on your move!!! That is such wonderful news…I just know you’ll enjoy unpacking and arranging your things in the new space. I finished Count the Ways last night and loved it. It might even be my favorite book of the year so far. Love the family photo!

    1. Thanks, JoAnn, I am enjoying settling in and arranging things. My granddaughter is coming tomorrow to take me to shop for a washer and dryer…and she promises to hang pictures. Isn’t she the greatest?

The family photo makes me look very short! I have shrunk a bit, but I once was 5’9″, and now I am 5’7″. My daughter is not taller than me, even with my shrinkage; she has on high heels. LOL All the boys are well over 6 feet tall.

I am loving Count the Ways…Joyce Maynard is one of my favorite authors, and I think I’ve read all of her books, including the memoirs.

      Enjoy your week!

  14. Oh how wonderful, Laurel! I know you were wanting to move out of the other location for a while. And here’s to family members who can be counted on to always be there! Two of my grown kids moved this summer, and it is a confusing and stressful time, but mostly in a good way. I know before very long you’ll have your shelves decorated “your way” with books and dolls.
On a bookish note, I just got Count the Ways on advice from Diane. She said if I read any book this summer, this should be it! I know that I’ll love it!

    1. Thanks, Rita, I hope you enjoy Count the Ways…and I am so happy that I got this apartment so quickly, after finally deciding to go for it.

Today my granddaughter took me shopping and I bought the washer and dryer, which will be delivered tomorrow.

Then she hung pictures on my walls. Could there be a better granddaughter/

      Enjoy your week.
