WEEKLY UPDATES: A NEW NORMAL?

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon and The Sunday Post for weekly updates.

Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

It has been a pretty good week, with good books, movies, etc.  I read and reviewed three books, and they kept me rapidly turning pages.  I only wrote five blog posts, and then started watching a movie  on Netflix called The Woman in the Window, based on the book by A.J. Finn.  Liking it so far.

In the dining room, the restrictions were completely lifted for vaccinated residents, who can now eat at regular tables with other people!  It is a little weird.

Today I will be Skyping with my oldest son and his wife in Prague.  I plan to have a mimosa while we talk, lol.  They will be having cocktails, so we’ll be “drinking together.”  What are the rest of you enjoying today?

Let’s take a closer look at my week.

  1. I agree that it will be a bit weird with this new mask announcement. I am still wearing mine, though.

Have a nice chat with your son and his wife.

    Your brunch meal looks delish!!

I enjoyed THE NEWCOMER…hope you enjoy it too.

Have a wonderful weekend and week, Laurel.

  2. Enjoy your virtual cocktail party with your son and his wife 🍷🍸 Here in the UK, restrictions relax slightly from Monday so I’m looking forward to enjoying a meal with my sister inside a restaurant later this month. I hope your books continue to keep you entertained as well.

    1. Thanks, Cathy, I will definitely enjoy that virtual cocktail party, but most of all, I’m looking forward to eventually getting together in person with family and friends. I have gone out with a few of them, the ones that live here.

Enjoy your meal in a restaurant…and your books.

    1. Thanks, Kathryn, I do like fewer restrictions, but because of living in a residential home, we still have to wear masks unless eating.

That is okay for me, since we’re used to it, and I don’t want to take chances.

Enjoy your books and your week!

  3. Ooh they made a woman in the Window on Netflix? I liked the book. I will definitely have to check that out!

When The Stars Go Dark looks really good!

Hope you have a nice weekend 🙂

We are still wearing masks wherever we go and practicing social distancing as much as possible. The vaccine roll out here in South Africa is not going very well. Welcome to Africa!

Glad you had a good reading week! I also want to watch The Woman in the Window! Will try to get to it tonight.

Enjoy your drinks with your son this afternoon!

    Have a good week ahead.

    1. Thanks, Mareli, and since I live in a residential facility, we still have to wear masks, too. Except when eating. However, being able to sit at tables with other people is a nice change.

Good luck on getting the vaccine soon!

Enjoy your books and your week.

I love the idea of having a drink together virtually. I hope you have fun. And let us know how the rest of The Woman in the Window goes.

  6. We went to eat at our favorite local restaurant for the first time in at least a year. We ate outdoors, and everyone else had on masks! I felt strange, like I was a bad person, but the CDC said it is not necessary for vaccinated people to wear them.

I am very curious about When the Stars Go Dark. I can’t wait to see what you think of it.

Your brunch looks fabulous. That’s my favorite meal of the day!

    1. Thanks, Deb, and I am glad you got to enjoy your favorite restaurant again! I have had a few outings, and the first one was strange…but I’m getting used to the “luxury” of being back in favorite places.

I am loving When the Stars Go Dark, and this author is one I really enjoy.

      Have a great week!

The masked people were probably just jealous that your got vaccinated so early! I signed up for my shot as soon as I was eligible, and I’m not fully vaccinated yet. My kids are just starting — they don’t have cars at school so waited until they came home for the summer to get jabbed.

I might wear my mask when I’m out with my family until we are all unvaccinated. To show solidarity, I guess.

Lovely looking Mother’s Day brunch, and thanks for all the book ideas

  7. Ooo that Mother’s Day brunch looks delish and yay, for the restrictions easing for vaccinated residents in your dining room! 😃 Today has just been a quiet day of blogging and reading for me – I got quite caught up in my current historical read Anna of Kleve: The Queen of Secrets by Alison Weir this morning. Take care, happy reading and I hope you enjoy your ‘drinks’ and catch up with your son. 😊

  8. What a good week… it does sound like things are pretty close to normal again. The brunch photo is making my mouth water. It’s getting close to dinner time and I’m hungry, lol! Paula McLain’s new book is getting some terrific reviews and I’ll be curious to hear your take. Hope the week ahead is another good one!

  9. Sounds like a great week. It’s such a nice feeling that things are opening up again. I’m still staying cautions though. I saw The Woman in the Window and thought it was good. When the Stars Go Dark looks good. I have The Newcomer, which also looks good. Hope you have a great week!

    My Sunday post is here.

Happy mimosa to you! Oh I need to get my hands on the new Paula McLain novel. I’m on a long library wait list for it. I hope you enjoy it. And I hope the Woman in the Window movie is as good & crazy as the book. Have a great week.

    1. Thanks, Susan, I hope you get the book soon! I haven’t even tried the library in a while, as I got a notice during the lockdown that my card expired….and I couldn’t find a way to renew it online! Maybe I can actually go to the library now.

I read some mixed reviews on The Woman in the Window movie, but I liked it. Amy Adams was the star, and I always enjoy her work.

      Have a great week!

Mimosas over Skype sounds lovely, I hope you enjoy it! And I’ve also gotten a little uncomfortable with some restrictions being lifted here, there’s so many people everywhere all of a sudden xD I hope you enjoy ‘The Newcomer’ and I’m going to check out the review for ‘The Next Wife’! I hope you have a lovely start to the week and do drop by my Mailbox Monday if you have the time! – Juli @ A Universe in Words

    1. I always love Skyping with my son, Juli, and the drinks made it feel like a party!

I am finding it an adjustment to be out among a lot of people, but I think I’ll slowly ease into the positive aspects. But I also worry that it might be too soon to go so far out there.

I am looking forward to The Newcomer! Enjoy your week.

  12. It feels a little weird to have restrictions suddenly lifted, doesn’t it? I think that it was a bit early in my area because I know that a lot of people are not fully vaccinated. I signed up for the shots as soon as I was allowed and I just got my second shot a week ago so it hasn’t taken full effect yet. It must be nice to be able to eat with other people again! I hope that you have a wonderful week!

    1. Thanks, Carole, I also think the loosened restrictions happened a bit quickly. However, my residence has always been so much stricter than everyone else, so I think it has been long overdue. Being able to eat with others has been nice.

I am still cautious, though, especially going into stores and restaurants.

  13. It’s the same here in the UK now that some restrictions have been lifted, although with the increasing cases of the new Indian Variant, we are both still being very cautious. It is both of our birthdays next week, so family are organising a BBQ for about ten of us. That is a veritable crowd compared to what we are used to, so I certainly won’t be throwing caution to the wind, although it will be nice to do something a bit ‘normal’!

Your Mother’s Day brunch looks amazing, just my kind of meal. I assume that is in the dining room of the complex where you live? If the food there is that good all the time, then I’m moving in! 🙂

I really like the sound of ‘When The Stars Go Dark’, so I am adding that one to my wish list and I hope that you enjoy it.

    Have a good week 🙂

    1. Ha-ha, Yvonne, if only the food were this good all the time! They do celebrations and holidays well, but the rest of the time, pretty boring.

I have a hard time eating most of the food, and have a select group of foods to choose that are not on the menu, and sometimes available.

I am enjoying When the Stars Go Dark.

  15. I have The Newcomer on my library list, hopefully the wait isn’t too long before it’s in my grubby mitts! And enjoy your virtual get-together – I have a coworker’s retirement party next Monday and am debating whether to go or not. I guess if it’s nice out that day & we’re able to sit on the patio…

  16. Woo hoo! I’m glad that you can eat at a table with other people now! It’s shocking that you’ve gone so long without being to do that! This has been such a weird period! I think we’re all going to have to recover from collective trauma from it…

    1. Oh, yes, it has been quite the difficult year, Melinda. Because we are senior residential living, the rules are stricter. But now we can go out and do things…and dine together!

I hope you have a great week.

  17. Sounds like a great week all around. The Mother’s Day meal looks tasty, and it’s good to hear you can dine together now. My Mother in Law moved into Sheltered Housing a month or so ago. She’s fully vaccinated but is finding the idea of dining with strangers a little daunting.

    1. Thanks, Erin, I am happily adjusting to some of the changes, while also cautiously clinging to some restrictions.

Tomorrow I will use Lyft again for the first time, to go to a doctor’s appointment, something that fell by the wayside during the past year.

  18. It is strange to have some places open with no masks and others still wearing masks. I have clients who still thank us for wearing masks while others want to remove theirs. More adjustments we have to make.

So glad you got to enjoy your bruch visit.
The Andrews books looks like a lighter read.
Have a good week and Happy Reading.

I love books that keep you turning the pages. They are just what I need at the moment. Glad you are able to start socialising again. We seem to be removed from it in Sydney, Australia and only have had a couple of weeks of mask wearing recently.
