WEEKLY UPDATES: INTENSE WEEK…

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

What a week! Intensity, worry, and questions about what happens next have kept me tied up in knots…but then I turn to my books, movies, and shows. Those activities do help. I read and reviewed two great books and wrote seven blog posts.

I enjoyed my First Book of the Year read, and then grabbed a book that resonated with me during these times in which we live.

I watched a movie that took me completely out of the situation:  a new Woody Allen film on Amazon Prime, and I could totally forget (almost) all the events of the week.  A Rainy Day in New York was not spectacular, but it was definitely distracting.

Let’s take a closer peek at the week while sipping some coffee.

That was my week.  Let’s hope for a calmer one ahead!  I have no treats to display this week…but I will be dreaming of good movies and books.  My Mini-Me (Bitmoji) is feeling no pain.

  1. I can relate to everything you said, and as always, I love your choice of books.

I’m going to check out the movie you watched. Not because it’s a Woody Allen film, but because I’m from NYC originally and I’m curious. 😃

I hope the days ahead will ease the angst many of us are feeling.

  3. I am sorry to hear you have been tied up in knots with worry and questions about what happens next this week, Laurel-Rain. I pray you will feel calmer and happier in the coming week. ❤ But you’re right at times like these we need distracting films and great books. Take care and happy reading! 🙂

I am planning to read The Wife Upstairs this week, and will your review a read after that. I hope you enjoyed it as much as everyone else has. This week’s news about the USA has been horrible and ridiculous. Hope things get better soon.

  5. As my friend says, “There are no words…” Yes – we all need distractions from the way things are panning out! I hope there are some delicious treats in the offing, even if you haven’t featured them. We need comfort food!! Have a good week, Laurel:)

  6. Tied up in knots? Yes, that’s exactly how I felt, too. Horrifying.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the new Woody Allen movie. He seems to be choosing some lovely places to set his movies, I think. I’m sorry it wasn’t spectacular, but I’m glad it was distracting.

Lots of good books in store for you, I think. Let’s hope they are also distracting. Or perhaps we can hope that we won’t need distraction?

Maybe I need to send my mini-me on a restful day in the garden, too.

    1. Thanks, Deb, I like the idea of not needing distraction!

If we can somehow get through the next couple of weeks, will there be a little bit of calm? I don’t know that I trust that process, but we can only take it a day at a time.

I might also grab some old movies to find comfort and relaxation.

      Enjoy your week.

  7. So glad you are finding ways to seek and find some peace and comfort with this up and down craziness. I’ve noticed I am reaching for HEA type of reads instead of my usual suspense/thrillers, edge of seat reads. Just gotta turn on the new for that! However, I am intrigued by The Wife Upstairs.

  8. What a week! Horrible! I could use a distraction and the Woody Allen movie sounds like just the thing.

I’m interested in all the books on your list. They look really good.

I hope you have a great week and enjoy your reading.

  9. This week seems like it was a year long… absolutely horrified by the events at the Capitol! I hope we can get to January 20th safely. Thankful to have books and movies to offer some distraction from the news. Hope you have a week filled with plenty of both!

  10. I am so thankful for books and movies and TV shows. They really offer a safe space to go to mentally when the real world is being too cruel and evil. I am so happy to hear you enjoyed your first book of the year! I hope you’ll enjoy all the books you’re planning on reading next. Have a great week!! ❤

  11. Oh – the mini-me is so cute and conveys a peaceful pose.
Woody Allen has never been an actor who drew me. I’m always glad there is variety in movies and books for us all to find something we can enjoy. 🙂
We can all hope this week will be calmer (not so sure though in the political realms).
Hoping that you stay calm and enjoy more good reading!

I think we could all use some calm after the chaos we endured last week. I feel like we are living in the land of Oz and I need to click my heels to get back home.

The Wrong Family looks like a good read. Hope you enjoy your books. Thanks for visiting my blog today.

  13. It’s been an eventful week for sure. I hope things calm down.

I haven’t been in a thriller mood much lately but The Wife Upstairs actually intrigues, I might look it up! Have a great week and happy reading!

2021 is certainly off to a turbulent start! I’ve been speechless watching a lot of what’s been going on unfold… I just hope that there’s no violence this coming week with Biden’s inauguration but that feels like something to much to hope for. 😦

Wishing you all the distraction you need with books, tv and movies!
