I had hoped to write this post much earlier in the day, but I was still reading my third book and couldn’t stop. I finished it finally about an hour ago, wrote the review, and then got distracted by texts from my granddaughter, which I couldn’t ignore.  Family contacts are important, aren’t they?

So…the reading culminated nicely.  The book I was still poring over earlier was the one I bought in 2017 and featured on my “Books from the Backlog” event on Thursday.  Finishing it felt like a real accomplishment.

My eyes are blurring over, from reading and being online…so I hope I don’t make any typos.  LOL.

This week brought some interesting movies and the usual shows, plus I just started watching Sweet Magnolias on Netflix.  I’m enjoying it so far.

That was my week.  It was chaotic at times, but I also felt a sense of accomplishment at finishing an older TBR…plus a library book.

  1. I love books like that! Glad it was good. Isn’t it funny how that happens sometimes when a book takes over?

    I’ve heard so much about Rebecca, I really should read it I suppose at some point!

    1. Thanks, Greg, and it will be hard not to dream of Memorial Day picnics and barbecues, sigh, but then again, it will be hot this coming week, so locked in with the AC running won’t be all bad, lol.

      As I add to my stacks of books, I love looking at them and thinking of them…even though I know that reading from print books seems to go more slowly than my e-books. Holding the large book? Print that is sometimes challenging? But I had to add to my physical bookshelf, and seeing them all lined up is very gratifying.

      I read Rebecca when I was in high school! I wonder how I would feel about it now?

  2. I’m glad you finally got to read that book from your backlist, and that it was so good you just had to finish reading it before you could share your week with us 🙂

    1. Thanks, Linda, by the time I posted my updates, it was very late. But I felt very gratified that I had finished that “backlog” book, and that I enjoyed it.

      My granddaughter had a new phone number and is moving…again! I wish I could actually see her. I think back to our regular visits and outings…before this horrific virus came along. Someday.

    1. Thanks, Cathy, I have enjoyed some books by Sittenfeld, in which she fictionalizes a real person, usually someone political, and from what I’ve heard of Rodham, she imagines a “what if” scenario for Hillary. I can’t wait to see where she takes us.

      I have hopes of rereading several old favorites, and I think I should go for Rebecca sooner than later, as I read it in high school!

  8. I read Rebecca another lifetime ago and I am hope you enjoy your reread. As for having to finish your book before starting the blog… I stayed up until 5 am to finish a book during the week, though paid for it with a lousy headache yesterday. I hope the coming week is full of wonderful reads, Laurel:).

    1. Ooh, yes, reading late is really hard on my eyes…they tend to blur and ache a little. I try to avoid rubbing them, with that “don’t touch your face” rule ringing in my ears.

      The next day can be hard, too. I remember staying up late all the time years ago…the advantages of youth.

      My first read of Rebecca was in another lifetime, too; high school! Now that was so long ago that I was a completely different person. I can barely remember it. LOL.

    1. Thanks for visiting, Erin, and I am always loving contact with my granddaughter, who visited regularly before the lockdown. But she sends photos and texts, and sometimes we video chat.

      Sweet Magnolias makes me feel nostalgic, for some reason, and I never lived in the South. But Southern living and characters do bring that out in me.

  11. My eyes get really blurry after reading online( or even a book lately). I just finished American Dirt and am starting the Seven Sisters series which I understand is a great series if you like historical fiction. I started Sweet Magnolias but I couldn’t get into it. Maybe I’ll try again

    1. I feel the same, Deb, especially since I don’t like to think of good books languishing on the shelves.

      I do have a thing about organizing my books, alphabetically, etc. But if I had more shelves, wouldn’t that be even better? LOL. I once had many, many shelves.

      I can’t wait to see what happens in Rodham.

  21. I started watching Sweet Magnolias this week too and I’ve also been enjoying it.
    I’m also reading A Good Marriage (though on audio) and really enjoying it. My Dark Vanessa was good but it was a difficult read.

  26. I hadn’t heard of “Books from the Backlog”, but I love it! I’ll have to try that myself as I have PLENTY I haven’t gotten around to reading. Congrats on finishing that book and two others, and good to see it was a good one!

    I would really like to read some books from my TBR mountain but am finding that so many of them are from deep in series that I began reading years ago. I looked at the 4 Carrie Vaughn books about a vampire named Kitty but they are books 11-14. I know I read the earlier ones but it has been years. I don’t know if I want to, or need to, read ten books again before getting to these of, if I should just give them away as a lost cause. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    Wow, a busy reading week to had Laurel. I’ll be curious to read what you think of My Dark Vanessa – I really liked it a lot, a page turner but, dark and tough at at times as well. Hope this week goes well. Take care.

    1. I have read just a few pages of My Dark Vanessa so far. I usually pick it up when my Kindle is charging. LOL.

  34. Even in a chaotic week, you got a lot of reading and blogging in! I love Rebecca and have read a couple of modern takes on it. Of course I can’t remember the name of either of them right now! I love the photos of your reading stacks. So organized!
