My week was another busy one, with holiday activities, occasional outings, and yes, some reading and blogging.  I read and reviewed three books…and went a little crazy with blog stuff.  I changed some headers, and also wrote nine blog posts!

In the process of blogging, I encountered some difficulty with images, mostly book images, which led to contacting WP support.  Their directions took me to a block editor system, which fixed the images, but the process was cumbersome…and I felt like I had no control over anything.  Luckily, I was able to revert to the classic editor afterwards…and the problems with images didn’t occur on all my posts.  Obviously I need to figure out how to make it work for me.  Sigh.

I’ll think about it tomorrow.  LOL.  I also enjoyed some movies this week, mostly older ones, like Interiors and The Company You Keep.  I was avoiding the Hallmark Christmas movies, and I’m now eager for a return to the mysteries they will show us in January.

Let’s not forget First Book of the Year.  My post will go up on this site on January 1.

  1. My week has been hectic with visitors or company each day. Tomorrow I’m hiding out and not answering the door, but…since all showed up with flowers or chocolate…whose complaining? Most were current or former students, which was lovely. Today my Starr came over with her nine year old niece, who was so enthralled with The Greatest Christmas Pageant Ever that she curled up in the rocking chair I had vacated under the reading lamp and quietly read while the grownups talked! I didn’t know little girls came like that anymore! HOORAY!!!

    1. Thanks, Kimberly, I think the stars were misaligned, or something, as I used those same images in an earlier post with no problem. Perhaps it will resolve just as quickly?

  4. I hope the image problem is soon solved. Yes I don’t think I’d like to use Block Editor – it looks too complicated! I did intend to read the Sarah Jio book but had to return it to the library because I had too many books to be read. I’ll see how you find it and maybe go get it out again.

    1. Thanks, Kathryn, I actually bought the Sarah Jio book in hardcover…I’m trying to “grow” my physical bookshelves. LOL. Loving it so far.

      I hope the image problem was a weird one-off (there were two images that were distorted), and I remember writing an earlier post with those same images and having no problem. ???

      I hated my brief time with Block Editor.

  6. I’ve tried the block editor and find it frustrating. Wasn’t sure if its me or wp. Perhaps I need more practice but I have better things to do with my time, you know? I hope the image issue resolves soon.
    My houseguests left on Saturday (after a ten day stay). I’m looking forward to getting back to my routine. I need to get a pick of me and my first book!

    1. Thanks, Mary, I can’t believe that WP hypes the block editor as “easy” editing. I don’t find it so, and I really hate when they change things all the time. LOL

      I’m hoping that the images that were distorted were a fluke, since most of mine are fine.

      Enjoy your week and as lovely as it is to have house guests, it is great to get back to the normal routine.

    That cheesecake looks delish, Laurel-Rain. I’ve switched over to WP block editing and it’s taking a while to get my head around it, but I’ll stick it out.

        Block editing tips? I haven’t got around to using half of the features yet and I’m not completely at ease with it yet but I like the way I can add “tweet this” parts, rejiggle paragraphs (blocks) without having to copy & paste and I love being able to save paragraphs (blocks) that I use a lot and use them in any post, kind of like a media library.

  8. I get frustrated with Blogger lots of times and look over the fence at the green grass of WordPress…good to know that WordPress has its difficulties, too.

    All the Flowers in Paris looks like a book I might need to read. I still can’t believe it’s happening, but I will be in Paris this time next month. I’m very curious about this book. I’ll look forward to your thoughts.

    The blueberry cheesecake looks delightful. My amazing baker niece made a blueberry-banana cheesecake for our Christmas get together that was so good I had to give it away before I ate the whole thing.

    1. Thanks, Deb, and I gave up on Blogger years ago, and found WP more to my liking. But when they change things there, I am always frustrated until I figure it all out. Sometimes I avoid the changes and discover “work arounds,” like going in through the admin parts of the site.

      I am loving All the Flowers in Paris. Dual time lines and a mysterious background, with strange connections. Sarah Jio does it so well. Enjoy!

  9. I don’t like the block editor either and I’ve been ignoring it. I’ve had issues today because this weeks iOS update does not play well with WP app (and I blog on my iPad). I have updated my top menu’s for 2020 but I’ll have to get on the desktop to update the sidebar.

  11. I have no ability with graphics so I commiserate. I have Meg & Jo from the library and I hope to get to it before it has to go back since it is getting great reviews! I made mini cheesecakes for Christmas eve and ate the last one with some fresh strawberries this afternoon.

  12. Sounds like a busy week. I hope you figure everything out with the WP stuff, that can be a pain sometimes. I always mean to do the First Book of the Year meme, but never get to it, it sounds like fun!

    1. Thanks, Candace, I liked WP until they started making so many changes that I couldn’t stand it! But I hated Blogger more, lol.

      I’m going to try figuring it all out, but yesterday had no glitches. Maybe I’ll think about it tomorrow, like Scarlett O’Hara, lol.

      As for computers, there’s always something that can go wrong or frustrate us! As for WP, instructions that the support people provide are not that easy to follow…IMO.

    Sounds like we both had problems with images this week. I think I’ve solved mine now by downloading a different snipping tool. I’ll see when I next need some images. Come see my week here. Happy reading and happy new year!

  20. Oh I’m so glad that I’m not the only one completely foxed by the block editing version! I had thought it was my techie idiocy, so it’s a relief to discover others are also finding it very user-hostile.

  22. I didn’t watch any of the Christmas movies either, but I did read more than usual Christmas books. I like the look of your new header! I am sure the Sarah Jio book is on the stacks!     1. Thanks, Nise; I have fun making the headers. I didn’t read any Christmas books, but I did get one in my mailbox today, a hardcover for my shelves once it’s finished. (Christmas Shopaholic).
