My week sped by, and while I ended up finishing only one book, it was a totally absorbing one, which led me to movies, etc.  Have you ever read a book that takes you down other interesting pathways?  One of those pathways involved ordering more books from Amazon.

Then Netflix and Amazon Prime captured my attention, some of which involved movies and then Season III of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Netflix).

Then…an email from Sheila, at Book Journey, caught me up in the thrill of our First Book of the Year Event.  Check it out!

Review:  Carrie Fisher:  A Life on the Edge, by Sheila Weller

After reading the completely absorbing book about Carrie Fisher, I watched some of her documentaries…again.  And ordered two more of her books (one of which I had previously owned, but “lost” in the move).

Which brings us to INCOMING BOOKS:

The actress-author of Postcards from the Edge explores maternity in her latest novel, featuring a very pregnant woman’s lively odyssey to rescue her Alzheimer’s-stricken grandfather from a nursing home.

So my week was all about nostalgia, it seems.  Now I’m reading another book in the Mason Series, Book III:

  1. I just have to try an Elizabeth Berg book. Nice you could go on a Carrie Fisher exploration. I haven’t decided about my first book of the year but I need to get on to it, I have so many to choose from. Yay for Netflix its making me happy too. Have you tried Virgin River – Robyn Carr’s series. I have watched two and love it.

  2. Carrie Fisher had a fascinating life, looks like a great book. And I love it when a book leads me to other books or to a good show! Glad it was a good week. 🙂

    The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has been getting some good buzz too, sounds like.

    1. Thanks, Greg, I am a big fan of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel…I’m halfway through Season III. Sigh. Because that means another long wait.

  4. It sounds like you had a great week! I tried to like Mrs. Maisel but I can’t get into it for some reason. I do however like the look of it – the set design and costumes and everything are pretty marvelous, actually. So visually I really like it. 🙂 Maybe I will give it another try.

    Hey Laurel: looks like a walk down memory lane … with the Carrie Fisher books. Postcards is quite a fun & funny movie. Does the biography talk about her years with Paul Simon? Recently I started The Affair TV series on Showtime which is quite a juicy drama. Have you seen it?

  6. I actually enjoy getting into a little binge like reading everything about Carrie Fisher or someone. It happens to me most with non-fiction. I think you didn’t get enough great food last week. Did you get plenty at Thanksgiving? Sadly, we still have Halloween candy. Have a lovely week and enjoy your reads!

    1. Thanks, Anne, and you’re right…I didn’t get enough Thanksgiving food. They didn’t serve it here at night (just at lunch, which I didn’t attend); and then, at the restaurant with family, I had soup.

      My daughter brought me a plate from her dinner.

      I did binge on movies, though.

  9. I haven’t read Postcards from the Edge but I did see the movie and enjoyed it. I have Mrs. Maisel added to my Prime Video but haven’t started it yet.

    1. Thanks, Candace, I so thoroughly enjoyed the author’s take on Carrie and her life that I’ve ordered another biography she has written on other celebrities:Girls Like Us: Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and Carly Simon.

  17. YES! I love it when a book inspires me to look up more books by the same author/ on the same topic. Right now, American Dirt has inspired me to read The Line Becomes a River (all about border patrol and migrants).

    1. Thanks, Elizabeth, I was pretty sure we would do First Book of the Year again, so I had already ordered mine by the time Sheila announced it. LOL

    I have been working on a big complex fantasy series with each book well over 500 pages. I decided to take a break before tackling the 629 pages of the concluding book by starting my 2020 review books and rereading an old favorite. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
