WEEKLY UPDATES: GOOD BOOKS, GOOD BUYS, & HAPPY HOUR!

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

It is time for another Weekly Update!  How did this week fly by so fast?  Yes, I say that every week.  I did finish reading and reviewing three books, though, and I’m halfway through a fourth one.  Five blog posts seemingly flew out of my fingertips and onto my blogs.  I also created a new blog header for Snow Sparks…and here it is.  I featured a close-up of my two little Madeline Hatter dolls.  Check out two versions:  one of my laptop view, and the other of the “header.”

Creating blog headers is fun for me, but it is also a time-consuming task.  I must have worked on it for a couple of hours, trying out different photos, etc.

So…now, back to other activities.  I’ve started going to Happy Hour on Friday nights in the dining hall…something I avoided for a while.  I’m not sure why.  Oh, yeah, some of the music was not to my taste, but lately, it has improved!  Also, our little treats now include some cocktails.  Last night brought Mudslides.  LOL

My other activities this week included boot shopping, which I featured on my Coffee Chat post.  Check it out.

Now let’s grab some coffee and take a closer look at the week.

That was my week. What did yours look like?  Oh, and here comes one of my favorite desserts from this week.  The pound cake was covered with berries!

  1. Cocktails sound like a good reason haha! And nice blog header. I agree, working on blog/ design stuff can be oddly relaxing!

Love the look of Good Girl, Bad Girl.

5 blog posts sounds like a pretty great week!

  2. Working on creating headers etc for your blogs is creative work so well spent time. I just have the two blogs – my book one and my quilt one. I am afraid they get little attention but quilting takes care of my creative needs I think. You do show some delicious foods – mouth watering!

    1. Thanks, Kathryn, I love quilts, but needlework was left out of my skill set, unfortunately. I’m glad you are able to express your creativity in such a great way.

Enjoy your reading and quilting; and yes, glad the treats offered some mouth watering pleasure, lol.

  3. The blog header looks nice. I know that is time consuming but the result is impressive. I love that happy hour is offered and I’d never miss it 😀 I hope you enjoy your reading this week and anything else that comes your way!

    1. Thanks, Mary, I am now going to be a regular at happy hour, lol. The week sparks when we can add a little fun in the form of drinks and music to the regular reading and blogging.

I hope you have a great week of reading and whatever else you choose to do. Enjoy!

Laurel creating blog headers and graphics in general is a lot of fun but yes so time consuming!!!! Now it seems to me that you only want to attend that event to drink :-D)))))))

  5. I love to change up my header, too. I should work on something I like for Nonfiction November. Or maybe just some fall colors? I used to do a lot of the work on my header when I had a Windows computer with Paint. I don’t seem to have a similar program on my Mac. Your header looks great.

I’m glad you have joined Happy Hour. I’m sure it will be something you’ll enjoy. Are there other readers there? Happy Hour would be a great time to talk books.

I love the look of that dessert, too. I’ve never tried pound cake.

It sounds like you had a great week.

    1. Thanks, Deb, I haven’t yet found any readers who gobble books like we do, but then again, I haven’t yet gone to Book Club. Yes, imagine that!

I hope you do find some enjoyment in creating new headers. Have a good week.

I love that you are able to get so much done! Honestly, I haven’t picked up a piece of fiction in two months. I have been so grounded in trying to work on my self and goals , but I do appreciate the journey. Thanks Laurel for sharing.

  7. I’m in awe… your house looks wonderful AND you have the tech skills to fiddle around with redesigning your headers! The dessert looks yummy and the books are tempting – what a lovely combination for a wonderful reading week. I hope your’s is a fab one, Laurel:)

  8. It is good to get out and join others… and a cocktail shared can be fun.
The Sparks header looks cute. Maybe someday I’ll have spare time to play with headers and the blog look. But no time in the foreseeable future.
Enjoy your desserts and your books!

    1. Thanks, Martha, Picmonkey helps me create the headers. I’ve used them for a while.

I am starting to settle in nicely here, especially in my apartment. But Happy Hour is nice…and then there is Wine Wednesday. LOL

      Enjoy your week.

  9. I’m glad you are getting comfortable enough with your new accomodation to become more involved with the community it offers. I’m sure those mudslides help ease the way.

I’m a little jealous that you got so much done this past week, I’ve been rather slothful.

Wishing you a great reading week

    1. Thanks, Shelleyrae, I like how the activities do bring us all together. I am not a fan of games or cards, but Happy Hour and Wine Wednesdays are fun. Oh, and there are group outings, like shopping and lunches out.

No mother with children at home is ever “slothful,” so, no, you don’t live up to that name. LOL

      Enjoy your week.

  10. Beautiful header! I’m going to change my blog name before the end of the year (probably to Gulfside Musing) and will need to come up with a new header photo. I have a hard time getting the size to work, so it will be a process…

Hooray for Friday Happy Hour! Fun cocktails and meeting new people is always a good idea… glad the music is improving. Hope it’s another good week for you!

    1. Thanks, JoAnn, our music started improving right after our Elvis Impersonator came in August. Cocktails always help, too.

I can’t wait to see your new header and title. I use Picmonkey to help with sizing, etc.

      Enjoy your week.

    1. Thanks, Kathy, I didn’t go to Happy Hour in the beginning. Sometimes I went out with family. But now they are all busy, and I’ve started participating in these nights. It has turned out to be fun.

Enjoy your week, and I’m eager to find out more about One Little Secret.
