WEEKLY UPDATES: MY ONGOING JOURNEY…

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

Another busy week has flown by, with numerous appointments…and great books.  I read and reviewed three books, all of them NetGalley ARCs being released on August 6, and loved them all.  Four blog posts almost brought me to my previous level of connecting with other bloggers.  Now I am in a countdown to my surgery, tentatively scheduled for July 22…but first I have to pass a couple of additional tests.

Meanwhile, my granddaughter has been helping with my interiors…and enjoying lunches, too.  Here is one of my favorite photos of her at lunch at one of our special places, California Pizza Kitchen:

Back at my little apartment, she hung the rest of my photos.  Here’s a favorite version of my entry way.  Note the Elvis handbag on the hall tree.  We emptied documents out of it in our shredding exercise, and the photos above the table were snapped by my eldest son when he was living in Ireland:

Now…let’s take a peek at my blogging while sipping an additional cup of coffee:

INCOMING BOOKS:

Empty mailbox…but I downloaded one e-book.

The Bookish Life of Nina Hill, by Abbi Waxman

The author of Other People’s Houses and The Garden of Small Beginnings delivers a quirky and charming novel chronicling the life of confirmed introvert Nina Hill as she does her best to fly under everyone’s radar.

Meet Nina Hill: A young woman supremely confident in her own…shell.

I love Waxman’s books…and can’t wait to meet this wonderful character.

My next ARC is Because You’re Mine, by Rea Frey (Release Date – 8/6)

An “insidious, suspenseful tale” (J.T. Ellison) with a “shocker of an ending you won’t see coming” (Michele Campbell), Because You’re Mine by Rea Frey, the author who “brings to mind Jodi Picoult” (Booklist) and “will appeal to readers of Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen” (Sally Hepworth) is a novel about how the truth will set you free.

But it’s the lies that keep you safe.

That was my week.  What did yours look like?  Last night I enjoyed Tiramisu.  Delicious!

  1. This sounds like a good week, hope those tests go well in the final countdown for the Op. Great to see those five star reads. I have just started listening to Nina Hill and finding my way with it.

  2. I hope your surgery goes well! It’s wonderful that you have a close relationship with your granddaughter. I love spending time with my grandparents. I lost my Nana recently and she was like a second mother to me. I will always cherish the memories I have of her going to lunch (we use to go to Chili’s and Mimi’s Cafe a lot,) as well as Barnes and Noble. She gave me my love for reading. Have a wonderful week 🙂

    1. Thanks, Lindy, I also loved my relationship with my grandmother. She was a great role model for grandparent relationships.

Enjoy your memories. Their gifts to us (moments together, love of reading) are priceless.

      Enjoy your week.

  3. I hope that all goes smoothly with the surgery and those tests, Lauren. In the meantime, you have clearly waved your magic with your new home – you do have an amazing eye! Lovely that you’ve been able to spend time with your granddaughter getting the place organised:).

  4. I need to focus on getting the Netgalley books off my reading pile. I’ve fallen a bit behind. 😦 Clearing off 3 in a week is good!

I hope the additional testing in the run up to your surgery goes well so that it doesn’t need to be rescheduled. Fingers crossed you read some more good books this week to distract from it.

  5. I’m eagerly looking forward to reading Bookish Life. I can’t wait to see what you think of it.

I hope you are able to go ahead with the surgery and finish the recovery process. Fingers crossed for you.

    Three five star reads! Wonderful.

    Have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Trin, I do enjoy spending time with Fiona. I’ve heard others comment on the resemblance, although I always think she looks like my son (her father), who looks like his dad…I think. LOL.

      Enjoy your week..

  8. The California Pizza Kitchen closest to us closed a few years ago and the closest one now is 30 miles from where I live which isn’t that far but I rarely go to that area. I have The Bookish Life of Nina Hill on my list to read. I would probably like Because You’re Mine. I love Tiramisu! Have a great week!
