WEEKLY UPDATES: BOOKS, BLOGGING, & A LITTLE PAMPERING…

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

This past week brought eight blog posts and two books read and reviewed.  Yesterday I went in to my daughter’s salon to get my hair styled as part of a new weekly schedule.  Now I feel pampered.  We had lunch afterwards at Mad Duck.

Last night I binge-watched half of Grace and Frankie’s Season Five on Netflix.  I always love that show!  Last weekend, I watched On the Basis of Sex at the neighborhood theater…and I enjoyed pre-movie lunch at Yard House nearby.

I can’t believe January is almost over…and right after it comes February, the month when I go to the accountant to have my taxes done.  Not my favorite activity!

Today I have errands and shopping to do.  So, before moving forward, let’s grab some coffee or tea…and take a closer look at the week.

  1. The Cue Card

Try not to worry about taxes just yet (you’ll get me started). A couple more weeks for January! I’m wondering if the Tessa Hadley novel is worth it — so I’ll be curious to hear what you think of it. What did you think of the RBG Basis of Sex movie? thx cheers.

    1. Thanks for visiting, Susan, and I have only read one Hadley book, although I have another of hers on my Kindle still unread. The one I read (Clever Girl) was just okay.

But I thought I would give her another try.

I loved On the Basis of Sex, and I went to the right performance. The audience was cheering and clapping at the end. My kind of people. LOL.

  2. Some interesting new books coming in and you are so well organised with your ARC’s which I find really impressive. Can’t believe you have taxes to sort again, seems only like yesterday you had to see to it. We have tax as you go for most people and only tax for businesses that have to be filled out every year. So… never think of them. Bliss!

    1. For lots of reasons these days, Kathryn, I think I’m living in the wrong country! More and more. LOL.

That Canadian border looks more appealing by the day. But…at my age, I think it would be a bit of a hassle. Sigh.

Enjoy your week and your books. I have a notebook to track my review ARCs and due dates…and they are also listed on pages on my Curl up and Read site.

  3. The Liar’s Room looks like something I’d like lol. Love that cover and tagline. And yay glad you had a good week! I agree about January by the way- it is totally flying by!

Taxes ugh! Can’t believe it’s that time already!!

Baked potato soup- yum. I totally feel like soup these days- must be the winter weather over this way. 🙂

  4. I like the Me For You cover.
I’m so glad that we have a PAYE system in the UK (unless you’re self employed) and that taxes are automatically deducted from my salary before the remainder is paid into my bank account… Actually filing my own accounts would be a nightmare! Good luck.

  5. You always have the finest meals Laurel. Last night I had Davanni’s. It was the the after wedding meal and I absolutely loved how when we arrived their were white table cloths and battery candles on the tables.

  6. Another successful week Laurel – still loving the hair colour, how lucky you are to have a daughter with a salon!

Enjoy The Liar’s Room and congratulations on finishing your NG reads for February already. So glad to hear you enjoyed Doris’s tale.

How did you like the movie On The Basis of Sex? I still have Grace and Frankie to watch. The baked potato soup looks yummy! I want to read The Liar’s Room. Looks good. Have a great week!

    1. I LOVED On the Basis of Sex, and so did the audience of the performance I chose. Clapping and cheering at the end, and a surprise I didn’t see coming. Spoiler alert!

Thanks for visiting, Yvonne, and I hope you love the newest season of Grace and Frankie.

The baked potato soup is my favorite, I think. Although I also love the split pea. LOL.

  8. Beware Of The Reader

Well Laurel the Ash Family has such bright colors I am enamored! And having your daughter being able to do you hair is super handy! It seems to me that your week was no bad even if time is indeed flying by!

    1. Thanks, Sophie, I was happy to have some good things to celebrate, including the now weekly schedule of hair styling. I wonder what I did to deserve that? LOL.

I hope I enjoy The Ash Family, a book I had never heard of, but couldn’t resist when it was offered from NetGalley.

Yummy soup! Looks delightful. I am reading one book now that I can’t seem to finish even tho I want to so bad, I just don’t seem to have enough time to do it (it’s for a blog tour). I am going to have to check out The Liar’s Room. It looks pretty freaky. Have a wonderful week!

    1. Thanks, Barb, I don’t envy you the long hair. Mine was once long, and I’m afraid I never went to have it styled. I braided it a lot, though. LOL..Now it’s shoulder length.

Have fun and enjoy the pampering, though.

I can’t wait to read The Liar’s Room.

  10. I love your hair! The soup looks delicious, I don’t think I’ve ever had baked potato soup. The Liar’s room sounds very interesting. I also love how organize you are. I really need to get it together because my reading slump put me behind in everything.

I hope you have a wonderful week & thank you for stopping by my blog!

    1. Thanks, Tina, I enjoyed getting my hair styled. My blogs and my reading are my focus these days, so it’s easy to be organized. I am just happy not to be at the career I had for 30 years…stress was the main part…and organization was necessary.

      Enjoy your week.

    1. Thanks, Nise, the weekly appointment is a new thing, but I’m loving it.

I really enjoyed Grace and Frankie…again, but now I have to wait for the next season for more. The downside of binge-watching!

Enjoy your books and your week.

  11. January is moving along. I suspect the year will move quickly as they tend to do. 🙂
That’s nice to get pampered. I have to force myself to get my hair cut when it gets too long.
I hope you enjoy your new books and your current read.
That potato soup looks yummy. Happy Reading!

Your hair looks great! I haven’t seen Grace and Frankie yet, but binge watching stuff on Netflix is the best.
Good luck with your taxes next month and have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Marti, I do love binge-watching on Netflix. Of course we then have to wait for the next season. LOL.

I am trying to put taxes out of my mind. I keep all my stuff in a folder, and just before the appointment, organize it all a bit and turn it over to the accountant. That is the kind of pampering I am grateful for these days.

I’m glad you enjoyed On the Basis of Sex. I saw it last week and thought it was wonderful. Yesterday I saw The Green Book and it was fantastic, too.

I’l be interested to hear what you think of Late in the Day. I liked it, but not as much as I had expected to. Have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Susie, I have been noticing previews of The Green Book…hope to see it, too.

I’m reluctant about Late in the Day, since I didn’t really like a previous book by the author. Tell me again why I bought it…LOL.

Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised by subsequent books from an author, though.

      Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks, Elizabeth…that’s because I only do selfies right after it is styled. LOL. But now it will look good longer, with our weekly appointments.

I spent a lot of time watching Netflix this weekend, but I’ll be finishing The Red Address Book today…and I’ll be sad to leave the characters. What a great read!

Thanks for visiting my blog, too.

I’m still working on my February ARCs with some of my own books sprinkled in. I have just started to get tax things in the mail. It should be a simpler year for me now that I’ve sold the houses I needed to sell and have a regular retirement income stream – but we’ll see. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
