WEEKLY UPDATES: LINGERING SUMMER HEAT…

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

Even though it is 76 degrees right now, the temperature will rise to the 90s for the weekend…and Monday.  Sigh.  Luckily the AC is working, and I have lots of books and movies to enjoy.  This week I read and reviewed THREE books, all unique and engaging.  I also enjoyed a new series on Netflix:  an Australian tale called Sisters.  I finished Season I…and we don’t know if there will be another season, but the cliffhanger is begging for more of this story.  A doctor performs IVF in his clinic, and for many years, secretly uses his own sperm with the patients!  He outs himself, and then a media circus follows.  DNA tests lead to three women turning out to be sisters.  But there might be more to the story.

On Amazon Prime, I watched The Children Act, with Emma Thompson.  Based on the book by Ian McEwan.

I may have solved the problem with the Amazon passcodes!  Apparently I did something while creating the account that calls for extra security.  I changed my password and did not click that box…and today my review went through with no issues.  What I don’t understand, though, is how this only recently became an issue, since I’ve had the account since 2006!

Perhaps I will not probe too deeply into the issue lest it comes back to haunt me.  LOL.

So…let’s have more coffee, and take a closer look at my week.

  1. That is kind of funny about your security issue! I am going to start Watching You in minutes! I liked the Lululeon book, too! We are finally enjoying really cool weather! We have windows open and are just relaxing and reading! Enjoy your weekend! Black Panther is new on Netflix…is that for you? Heeheehee!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Patty; enjoy your cooler weather. I will pretend it’s cooler as I sit inside with AC.

I can’t figure out how the Amazon issue cropped up suddenly, in the last few weeks. I have now changed my password at Amazon, in order to make sure that the extra security feature was not checked!

If Black Panther was about the 60s party, maybe…but not this particular series. LOL.

      Enjoy your weekend reading.

  2. We finally got a cool down today but it was in the upper 80s and 90s all week with high humidity. No one told our neck of the woods that it was fall. Looks like you have some good books coming up and I may have to look into Sisters because it sounds quite interesting. Right now we are watching The Purge on USA each week and I’ve been recording Mr. Mercedes Season 2 and am dreadfully behind.

  3. Ya, key lime pie, yum. Fall started early(1st Sept) but Happy Fall! Of course, it snowed too, but we’ve had some sunny breaks from the dense fog lingering around for the most part of the week. grrr. Summer was really short for us.

  4. I can’t wait to hear about Watching You. That cover really caught my eye. Our temps went to the low 40s last night and didn’t get out of the 60s today. The sun is shining on a perfect Saturday. But due to recent rainfall we have a late crop of mosquitoes that make being outdoors almost impossible. I hope they go away with a good freeze one night soon.
    Have a good week!

    1. Oh, yikes, Mary…mosquitoes are the worst! I hope they go away.

I love Lisa Jewell’s books, and I’m happy to finally be ready to read Watching You. I’ve noticed that reading physical books is a more challenging exercise for me these days, but I do like being able to flip the pages back and forth.

      Enjoy your week!

  5. The Cue Card

Okay what’s the story of the movie version of The Children Act ? Is it good? Worth seeing? Thanks it looks pretty good so I’m hoping to get to it. Enjoy your week.

    1. Thanks, Susan, I loved it, but some might not like the quiet story of a judge who has to make difficult decisions in family court…while struggling with her marriage. Emma Thompson and Stanley Tucci star.

      Enjoy your week.

  6. Ha ha yes sometimes things just resolve themselves, and it’s best not to dig TOO deep! I’ve found that myself a few times.

Sorry to hear it’s still hot there. It’s 64 here right now and for the next week they’re calling for 60’s and 70’s. I’ll take it I think. 🙂

Watching You and I Know You Know both look great. I feel like I’m falling behind on Lisa Jewell lol- I haven’t read her last one and now this one! I better get cracking!

    Yummy looking pie!!

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Greg, and I’m almost afraid to even mention that the Amazon glitch may have resolved itself (or I resolved it by changing my sign-in). In a way, I’m worried that the next time I try to post, I’ll be faced with the same old passcode problem. I’m hoping not, though.

I do love Lisa Jewell’s books, and it always takes a while for them to be delivered, since I buy the hardcover versions. In fact, the e-book version is not yet out.

      Have a great week!

  7. You have some good books in your reading line up. I just checked on Woman Last Seen… on GR and I already had it on my TBR but have no recollection of why! I won’t put in a request yet at the library but will keep it in mind when my library list runs low!

  8. Oh gosh, never mess with Amazon-it’s the biggest lesson I’ve learned in a while. Changing any part of your account can cause you to lose whole gift cards! And the list of every book you’ve ever read on a kindle through your library system.

  9. Ooh, I’d forgotten about a movie version of The Children Act! Loved the book, so I hope this was a good adaptation. Glad things worked out with your amazon account, too. As long as it works, sometimes it’s best not to delve too deeply into the cause or the solution, lol! Have a good week 🙂

    1. Thanks, JoAnn, and I agree and hope that the issue is now a thing of the past. Whew!

I did enjoy The Children Act’s adaptation…Emma Thompson and Stanley Tucci were great together, and I’ve always admired their acting.

      Have a great week!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Erin, and I do love fall! We’re not quite there, but soon…I hope.

I find temperament is the least of technology’s problems…but I don’t want to even ponder other possibilities, like cyber-attacks. Yikes!

      Enjoy your week.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Sim, and I hope you resolve your issues, too. What I find most challenging is how hard it is to find a suitable way to contact those Amazon folks. They hide their information, or they don’t clearly mark the ways to access them.

      Enjoy your week!

I am glad you were able to get the Amazon situation worked out. I probably wouldn’t want to dig any deeper either for fear it would happen again! Haha. It sounds like you are having a nice weekend. Ours has been fairly calm over all. We did have rehearsal Saturday, but today is free. Well, except for grocery shopping. Have a great week, Laurel-Rain!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Wendy, and I am enjoying a quiet weekend…reading and getting ready to binge-watch more Netflix.

As for Amazon, I don’t know why it is so hard to communicate with them…finding a quick and easy way to write and ask about issues. I had to figure mine out by myself! LOL

  11. I’d not seen that show but that’s happened a few times now in real life I believe and been in a number of tv police shows over the years. People do such crazy things.

Hope you have a great week! Ugh on the temp going back up. Ours keeps switching it up, too.

    1. Thanks, Anna, I have discovered that I really love shows (and movies) that are off the charts unusual, or that really bring out issues from the headlines.

I also love reading books like that, too. Have a great week, and let’s hope for cooler weather.

  12. Watching You sounds good! That’s definitely one I’ll want to read. I’ve also received I Know You Know this week, I’ve enjoyed her previous books so I’m looking forward to it.

Hope you have a great week, happy reading!

Our weather is about 30 degrees cooler than yours. I like yours better! I hope you enjoy this week’s reading choices. I’m taking a break from review books to lower TBR mountain this week. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Kathy, and I know that humidity would be a killer for me. I hate the thought of it, and imagine it would be hard to breathe, too.

Here’s hoping it moves on and you have better weather. Enjoy your week! I’m glad I was able to review a book last week with no issues. I’ll be holding my breath the next time I try to review, though.

  15. I need to recheck reviewing on Amazon though I suspect they’ve just blocked me! We’re finally getting a bit cooler but I suspect it’s very temporary and it’ll be back up to 90 soon. The Lisa Jewell book is really calling me. I finally listened to one of her books earlier this year and I really loved it. I want more! Have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Katherine, good luck on Amazon! After more than ten years reviewing for them, they did this stupid passcode thing. But…I changed my log-in and password and managed to post one without problems. Let’s hope it continues.

I love Lisa Jewell’s books. Enjoy!

We went right from summer into the middle of fall. It’s been cool these past few days and tomorrow will be rainy. Don’t think my fall garden will amount to much. Oh well. Watching You sounds great. Hope you enjoy your reading this week. Thanks for visiting my blog.

  17. That show about the Sisters, I’m sure there was something in the news not too long ago about that actually happening! A doctor using his own sperm… All very creepy.
Autumn is in full swing here now… It’s gotten so cold so quickly that the heating has had to be turned on! I feel silly complaining about the cold when I’ve spent so long complaining about the heat but there’s no middle ground! lol

    1. Ha- so true about heat vs. cold. I do believe Sisters was based on some actual events. The man playing the weird doctor plays his part so very well…he is so strange that I couldn’t stand looking at him! But I liked one of the sisters.

Thanks for visiting, Nicci, and enjoy your week.
