WEEKLY UPDATES: A NEW MONTH…AND FALL LIES AHEAD!

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

Here we are on the first day of September, and for some reason, my mind is not accepting that fact.  I do have all the calendars up…and yes, I’m one of those people who enjoys pretty calendars in each room.

Today has been very busy already!   Late last night, I had written my review on my third book of the week, which I needed for my August wrap-up; I wrote that post first thing this morning.  Earlier in the week, I started having glitches on my Pippa, and lost the library book I had been reading.  I think I might have been able to get it back from the cloud…but then I recalled that these glitches had been happening more often than I liked.  I brought Pippa into my home in 2015, so I guess she had served her time.   I went to the Oasis page and ordered my newest friend.  It is supposed to arrive today by 8 p.m.  I hope it is on time, as I am eager to start figuring it out and reading from it.  I have some “O” names to ponder for this new gadget…yes, Pippa was my Paperwhite, and an “O” name will honor my Oasis.

While waiting for Opal, or Octavia, or Olga…October?...to arrive, I have a new season to watch on Ozark!  Yay.  I also started watching Friends, a show I didn’t see on the networks, except for the occasional episode.

So…that’s my week so far.  Let’s grab some more coffee and take a closer look:

INCOMING BOOKS: (Titles/Covers Linked to Amazon)

Empty physical mailbox!  But my inbox had a link to a new library book that I had on hold.

Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine (e-book), by Gail Honeyman

WHAT’S NEXT?

Now That You Mention It (e-book), by Kristan Higgins, a book that has been on my shelves since December…and I want to read her newest book soon!

I also want to scan my shelves and see what has been waiting around too long…like Best Beach Ever, by Wendy Wax, since 5/18; or Those Other Women, by Nicola Moriarty, since 6/18; or The Other Wife, by Michael Robotham, since 6/18.  Then, of course, there is Watching You,  by Lisa Jewells.

We won’t mention the books that have been hanging around since 2016 or 2017…or before.  Those are a task for another week.

***

So…that’s my week.  What did yours look like?  Of course I’m going to share the dessert I had last night at Marie Callender’s…plain old French Apple Pie a la Mode.  I was reading Pieces of Her, by Karin Slaughter…see the review above.

  1. You have had a busy day…already! I am watching Den clean our bathroom…he feels it’s his job to tackle this…as I read my book! Football is on in the background but as long as I can read…I don’t even hear it! It truly feels as though it should not be September yet!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Patty, and I am ready to start reading again. I’ll also have my eye on the mailbox, but I’ll wait until this afternoon…and, of course, the tracking on my e-mail will tell me when Opal has been delivered! (Or should I stick to the “P” letter, even though it’s an Oasis? Paige sounds bookish).

I don’t want to do any cleaning today…but the dusting and vacuuming are calling to me.

I have Hallmark Channel on in the background.

  2. Whatever you name your new Kindle I hope you enjoy it. I’ve had the first generation Oasis since May’16 and really like it. I’ve read the new version is even better (bigger and waterproof!). I hope she arrives at your house soon. I’m just starting Pieces of Her – my first by the author! Have a great week. Happy September 🙂

  3. It’s nice to have a calendar in different rooms! something different to look at. Ooh yay for the new Oasis- and have fun picking a name. 🙂 Hope you enjoy Ozark- that’s on my list to watch. I watched the first episode.

I need to get back to some Lisa Jewell.

    Yummy looking dessert!!

    1. Thanks, Greg, and I agree about the calendars. I have one with scenes of Ireland for my “Ireland Room,” and Mary Engelbreit for the kitchen. The office has something artistic, like Georgia O’Keefe, right now. LOL

I’m playing with my new Oasis, and trying to figure it out. Luckily it was already registered to Amazon, so I just had to connect to Wi-Fi and figure out which books to include from the Cloud. They had a lot of books on it…but not the ones I had on Pippa. So I’m going back and forth for now.

I haven’t started Ozark yet…because of, you know, THE NEW OASIS, which I’ve named Paige! I was going to use an “O” name, but didn’t really like any of them…and Paige reminds me of book pages. LOL

      Enjoy your week.

I hope you love your Oasis! I have almost every Kindle that they have made and my Oasis is by far my favorite. I find it comfortable to hold and it charges really quickly.

It is really hard to believe it is already September! You have some great books lined up. I really enjoyed Eleanor Oliphant and hope you do as well. Have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Carole, I’m having fun with it! I just discovered that I can fold back the cover to hold it in a more comfortable position.

I’ve had the original Kindle, the Paperwhite, and now this one.

I am eager to start reading Eleanor Oliphant. Enjoy your week!

Sounds like September has really taken off for you! I am sorry about Pippa. She served you will. I hope you like your Oasis. I really like mine. My daughter and I named it Cosette. 🙂 Now That You Mention It looks like it will be good. We have errands to run tomorrow and maybe we will take my daughter to her favorite restaurant (play center). Depends on how much energy we have. Have a great week, Laurel-Rain!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Wendy, and even though I planned to use an “O” name for my Oasis, I stuck to the letter “P” and named her Paige…which reminds me of something bookish. LOL

I’ve enjoyed reading on her all day, once I got it set up.

      Have fun with your daughter!

  6. Ah a new Kindle. I await with interest to see the new O name it receives. Poor Pippa. Trying to think how long I have had my paperwhite, must look back to see. You have some great books lined up. Loved a number of them.

    1. Thanks, Kathryn, and I may have jumped the gun on Pippa…it still works, except when it glitches. But I’m keeping it registered, and using the Oasis as the default one..and as for the “O” name, I ended up going with another “P”: Paige. Yeah, I reminded myself that my iPhone is Phoebe, so the “P” girls need to stick together. LOL.

I went to my Orders and searched, and I bought Pippa in April of 2015. So…she’s really still a toddler. Except when it comes to devices, of course.

      Enjoy your week!

  7. Oh no, too bad to hear that about your Kindle. Mine has been playing up too (like randomly clicking things on the screen that I wasn’t clicking). I was worried because it’s quite hard to get a Kindle where I live, unlike in the States.
And hey, maybe Olivia? 🙂 and I also got Eleanor Oliphant this month too.

    1. Thanks, Evelina, and I like Olivia…but I switched things up and went back to a “P” name: Paige.

I was almost having second thoughts about putting Pippa “away,” so I’ll just power her off and keep her registered, too, for now, with Paige as the default one. I sure had fun playing with her yesterday!

      Enjoy your week!

My Kindle s slowly dying but I love the big screen it has. I gues eventually I will ahve to get a new one, I’m just not sure which one to get. I have seen Ozark on Netflix and it is on my list to watch. Maybe soon. Is it really good? Have a great day. 🙂

    1. Thanks for visiting, Jenea, and I started watching the first episode of the new season of Ozark, after playing around with my new Oasis, Paige, but stopped halfway through…I was tired! Plus, it takes a while to catch up with a new season. They wait too long in between!

      Enjoy your week.

    1. Thanks, Lulu, I was happy to discover your blog…and I’m glad you could visit.

I’m loving my new Oasis, which I’ve named Paige. I know, I thought I’d go with an “O” name, but my old Kindle and my iPhone have “P” names: Pippa and Phoebe.

Enjoy your week, and I’m loving September so far. (Yes, new Kindle and new books!).

      1. I use my Fire to read those terrible PDF files, when mobis are not available. It’s the only way I can read books from Hoopla too, since you have to use their app. I have mostly been lending my paperwhite to friends to read books that are not lend-able through Amazon.

Yummy Apple Crumb!! So jealous! I love the Belle and Aurora figurines in the background there. Beautiful! I have had my kindle since 2012 and it is starting to lose battery power too quickly. I am dreading getting a new one as I LOVE it but I must do it. Have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Mary, I love the figurines, too; I have more of them on a carousel that sits atop my Baker’s Rack. I went nuts with these things when I moved in here.

I think I could have gotten more life out of my Paperwhite…it was only three years old. And I probably could have powered it off more often to fix those glitches. I just started to panic when I lost a book. Now I realize I could have gotten it back…probably. Sigh.

I love the apple pie, too. Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks, Yvonne, and as you know, Pippa is not really dead, just ailing occasionally. But I do love my new one…and I’m having fun with it.

I started watching Season II of Ozark, but got distracted by my new friend Paige.

Enjoy your weekend…and the new week.

  10. Hahaha, calling your kindle paperwhite Pippa is so funny! At first I thought it was some less known brand for e-readers, but then when I read, I think it’s awesome how you name your kindle. Btw, I was sure those things would last longer. I had my nook and it broke after 2 years, I was so disappointed, but I was sure that Kindle lasts longer… :/

    1. Thanks for visiting, Irena, and there is still life left in Pippa, which I bought three years ago…but the glitches were annoying, so I went for an upgrade. So now Paige (my new Oasis) and I have finished our first September book together.

      Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks, Candace, I am loving “Paige” already, and we finished our first book together yesterday.

I love Jason Bateman, so I am glad to be enjoying another season of Ozark. I’ve only finished one episode so far, though. Hope you love it…and have a great week.

I hope you are enjoying your new reader. I can’t remember when I purchased my Nook but it has been acting up and not staying charged. I don’t plan to get a new reader until December, so I hope she lasts lol. I hope you have a great week!

  12. Ooo apple pie – a great way to greet fall! I love calendars too! I only have one hanging at home, and then one at work – here I have a Michigan water calendar, at work a National Parks one. 🙂

I really want to read the new Higgins too. And I loved Now That You Mention It. I hope you do as well!

    1. Thanks, Martha, and I do enjoy looking at the photos on each calendar. As for my older books, I have a notebook with lists of books and when I bought them…so I can check that to decide what to read next. I also have them listed on my Curl up and Read blog.

I was going to use an “O” name for the Oasis, but I’m quite fond of the “P” names, with Pippa, my Paperwhite and Phoebe, my iPhone. So my Oasis is dubbed Paige! It sounded bookish to me. LOL

      Enjoy your week.

    1. Thanks, Alexis, I love starting to plan for the next year in the fall; I go to Barnes & Noble and find something that will fit with each room. Mary Engelbreit’s calendars are always in my kitchen. LOL

Enjoy your week, and thanks for stopping by.
