I am halfway through my Saturday…and just finished my third book of the week.  Each book brought something unique to my reading experience.  My week was also one of household tasks, like scrubbing the kitchen with the help of my granddaughter.  (Okay, she did all the work!).  I continued with the bathrooms the next day.  Now I am ready to relax.  But first, let’s talk about other events of the week:  Skyping with my eldest son in Prague; texting with Son #2, who had just proposed to his girlfriend in Central Park, after which they went to see Hamilton on Broadway; watching some favorite shows, like Sharp Objects and The Affair; and getting ready for new Netflix shows to binge-watch soon (Ozark, Season II).

This week’s episode of The Sinner, Season II, is still waiting on my DVR.  Today I’ll probably get to it.

So…now I’m ready for more coffee, and a chat about the details of the week:

  2. I wish I could watch a good Netflix show. Nothing seems to interest me at the moment, but I will check out Sinner and Ozark, and Sharp Objects. I think there is also one that Netflix recommended to me. It’s called The Innocents. *shrugs.
    Ha! I got Karin Slaughter on audio. I saw An Unwanted Guest by Shari Lapena too. Interesting. Did not read Lies yet.
    We don’t have Marie Callender’s in Canada, but I’ve heard good things about it from a youtuber Rawbeautykristi. 🙂 I hope it was good! Have a great week and don’t strain yourself. It’s kind of your daughter to help with cleaning.

    1. Thanks for visiting, Jackie; I really enjoyed Ozark…I like Jason Bateman. Sharp Objects is one I really like because of Amy Adams, and also Patricia Clarkson, who is very convincing as a cold and evil character. She made my blood turn cold. LOL

      My granddaughter was very helpful…although she is not available that often.

  4. How do you like The Sinner S2 so far? I know it’s early but I liked S1, not sure if I’m gonna start S2 because I guess the characters change? Other than Pullman I guess. Also The affair has that actress in it from Luther who played a psychopath SO well, I kinda want to watch it just for her!

    Wow, congrats to your son on his proposal! Central PArk- nice choice. 🙂

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Greg, and while I’m still watching Season II of The Sinner, I must confess that I don’t find the characters very appealing in this new outing. The child and his mother are both very disturbing, IMO.

      But I guess it’s hard to top Jessica Biel’s characterization in the last season.

      As for the Central Park proposal, it is definitely reminiscent of movies we’ve loved, and since he works in the industry, I guess he couldn’t help himself. LOL

      I did feel good about getting work done, even though the really hard task went to my granddaughter…I’m sure she won’t be volunteering again soon. I would love to have a kitchen floor that is easy to keep up. Sigh.

  7. Congrats to your son! What happy news.
    As I read about scrubbing kitchens, I looked around my own and shuddered at the thought of all the deep cleaning and sorting that’s to come in the next couple of months with the house move!

    1. Thanks, Sarah, I did enjoy this week…hot thought it was, it was a little cooler. But house cleaning in the heat, even with the AC at full blast…not my favorite thing. But the main scrubbing was done by Fiona, a very brave and courageous soul.

      Now I look forward to a lunch out…and more reading. Have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Rachel, I had the book I’ll Be Gone in the Dark on library hold for a long while, it seemed. So glad to finally have it. I’ve also been awaiting Pieces of Her for a while, too.

    Looks like a lot of great reads this week. I want to read most of these myself. I got Shatter Me from the library this week and I am loving it. I would love that Pot Pie and salad…What am I making for dinner tonight? Have a wonderful week.

    1. Thanks, Deb, I knew the engagement would be coming soon, but I was surprised about the Central Park venue. But come to think of it, not so much. My #2 son is into scenes that could come from a movie.

      I am already loving my first book of this week: Lies.

    1. Thanks, Yvonne, I didn’t even know that my son was in New York that weekend (he lives in LA), but I was impressed with how romantic that proposal was.

      I’m excited about the Karin Slaughter book, too. I’m reading Lies now, a September NG ARC, and having a hard time putting it down. It grabbed me from the get-go.

    1. Ha-ha, I agree that training the grandkids to be useful is something we need to do.

      I hope to love Pieces of Her, and right now I’m hooked on Lies, which grabbed me so quickly I didn’t know what had hit me. Some books are like that for me. I am drawn in immediately, and the pages turn rapidly.

  31. The Cue Card

    Central Park in the fall seems a nice place for proposals 🙂 Good for him! I still haven’t gotten to Sharp Objects yet. We watched a series called Rome on Netflix which was good: about the rise of Julius Caesar. For some reason, I thought you had already read the McNamara book. It’s a doozy and will conjure all your memories of 1970s California etc. Enjoy your week.

    1. Thanks for visiting, Susan, and I thought Central Park was the perfect spot for a proposal…the picture he sent of the two of them against that backdrop is gorgeous, too, IMO. I do love the East Coast in the fall, although I’ve never been to NYC! Sigh.

      I am eager to start reading the McNamara book…1970s California is a time I recall with some fear…and nostalgia. A mix of emotions.
