Another hot week!  I had two sleepless nights due to the heat, so I got up at 3:30 a.m. to read and watch movies.  Later I made up for it by taking naps.  In the end, I read and reviewed three books, but none of them were thrillers.  Dysfunctional families, imperfect marriages, and a little bit of mystery.  I enjoyed some Amazon Prime and Netflix shows, but didn’t settle on anything that kept me glued to the screen.  My regular shows, though, kept me hooked:  Sharp Objects, The Affair, The Sinner...and I’m glad that tomorrow will bring another Hallmark Murders & Mysteries outing.

I am eager to see the movie The Wife, starring Glenn Close, but it has not yet come to my city.  Sigh.

I am hoping for the end of the wildfires…and the safety of everyone.  Let’s grab a cup of coffee and take a closer look at my week.

    Your wild fires and heat versus our pouring rainfalls and humidity…there is no Even Steven anywhere!

    We had a quiet Saturday…adding a dresser…changing out a dresser…deciding if I want a comfy chaise for our room. The kitties are all for a chaise!

    Reading Rush and it’s really good. Sororities…racial cruelty…privileged women…in a way it reminds me of The Girls…

      Although I’m not a big fan of sorority stories, Rush does sound good, especially when adding in the racial cruelty and privileged women issues.

  4. I’m sorry to hear about the weather disrupting your sleep. I hate when that happens. So far even though it has been hot I’ve been sleeping well at night. I received Lies by T.M. Logan from NetGalley as well. Thank God for Margarita, and the French roast I assume was delicious 🙂

  5. Sorry to hear the heat was so disruptive! That’s not fun. But if you have to do something reading and watching aren’t bad choices, right? 🙂 I’d like to see Sharp Objects, and I liked the first season of The Sinner. The Affair I haven’t seen but I like the actress in it, she was great in Luther.

    A Noise Downstairs and Lies both look like books I might like.

    Oh that pot roast looks delicious!!

    1. Thanks, Greg, and the pot roast was yummy…I brought half of it home for tomorrow!

      I remember watching a few episodes of Luther, and noticing that Ruth Wilson was on it. I need to get back to that show.

  6. Oh my gosh, I just got hooked on The Sinner and it was so freaking good. I absolutely loved every single minute of it and I thought that the mystery and the character depth was phenomenal. This is why I adore mysteries, I just finished reading a really good one by Lauren Oliver, Broken Things. I can’t wait to own a physical copy when it’s available. Talk about a wonderfully written book, I love the fact that it was a story written within a story and it was extremely character driven. 🙂

      1. Yes, I saw S1 of The Sinner, and I really enjoyed it. It was on Netflix, but now I’m thinking I need to catch up with S2 if there is one. I thought it was really great and I love Jessica Beil, she is such a wonderfully beautiful talented actress. 🙂

        They are so good and I really love them when they are all twisty, plot-heavy, and character focused. 🙂

  8. I think the heat has well and truly abandoned the UK now… It’s back to rain and cooler temps. Great for the sleeping but not so great when I finally get my two weeks leave to spend time with my mum and son doing fun things! lol

  9. Sorry about the heat and I hope the wildfires aren’t near your home. It’s such a horrible situation that’s taking place in CA. My thoughts and prayers go out to the people affected by it.

    You have some good titles I want to check out. I’m eager to read A Noise Downstairs by Linwood Barclay and also November Road is on my wishlist. I have When the Lights Go Out arc but haven’t turned to it yet. It looks intense!

  14. I do the same, sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night on weekends and will just grab my booklight and my book and read for about an hour before getting back to sleep. Your meal looks yummy and the Hallmark Murders & Mysteries sounds like fun. Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks, Jennifer, every summer it is very hot here…and the heat weighs us down. But soon we will have fall…and I’m happily staying inside with AC during the day. I may have to use the AC at night, too…but so far, I’m just using a fan.

      Sleeping in the heat is not my best event. Sometimes I have the fan on, but it dries out my nasal passages…and that isn’t good, either. Sigh.

  23. Our AC has been running almost non-stop this summer. We have such high humidity and temps in 80s and 90s. Sorry about your interrupted sleep but at least you’re able to nap. I just entered a GR giveaway for the next Hilderbrand book. I also bought a book tonight after reading about it on the first Mailbox Monday link – Jane Doe by Victoria Helen Stone. It sounds good!

    1. I checked out that Jane Doe book, too, but haven’t yet downloaded it.

      The AC running all day is a thing here, too, but I turn it off at night. Perhaps I shouldn’t.

      When I just use the fan at night, it obviously isn’t enough. Sigh.

  25. We have this much in common – it’s HOT here too and Glenn Close’s The Wife is unlikely to come here anytime soon but I too want to see it. I count Glenn as one of those women long overdue for an Oscar. Nominated for everything from The Big Chill to Dangerous Liaisons to Fatal Attraction, and then some, and never won. Could this be the one, I wonder.

  28. I sure hope you get some relief from the heat soon! We’ve had the most humid summer on record here, but strangely, have broken no temperature records. It just feels uncomfortably sticky. Either way, still perfect weather to go to the movies. Unfortunately, The Wife isn’t playing here either. Hope you have a cooler week!

      I think humidity would bother me even more than the heat! Let’s hope for cooler weather, with less stickiness for you.

      I would love that pot roast recipe too. I’m thinking I should make it in the slow cooker.

  36. Yes, I am wanting a shift in the weather to help ease the wildfires. We are stuck in the smoke again here in Oregon. You read some great books last week. Your new books are new to me. Need to research them.

    And omg Sharp Objects – it is so well done! We are glued to the screen the whole time. I love the silent moments, her memories. You can’t look away or you might miss something. I am loving it. And the performances are brilliant!

    1. I agree about Sharp Objects, Erin. I hate that mother…she is so creepy, and what she has done to her daughters is beyond pathological.

      She is awful to Camille…and all of her cutting, etc., is because of some really deep trauma from childhood. I read the book, but it was a long time ago, so I don’t actually remember how it played out.

  38. Sorry you have had disturbed sleep. I hope your back is better. I’m not much in to dysfunctional families… just dysfunctional societies (post apocalyptic)!
    Mr. Flood’s Last Resort sounds intriguing.
