Welcome to another Coffee Chat in which we share some bookish (and not so bookish) thoughts.   Link up at Bookishly Boisterous.

Today was one of those “early rise and shine mornings” because of how hot it was throughout the night, even with a fan blowing;  I jumped out of bed at 3:30.  My plan was to go into the office and turn on the computer, check out my e-mails, and maybe read a little.  I did get to the supermarket in the late morning.  Then I took a nap!

  • Last weekend was a time for celebrating my daughter’s birthday.  We had our lunch together on Friday, but on Sunday we enjoyed a brunch in her new home.  I didn’t snap any photos of our food…sigh.  But here is Heather having a mimosa with her friend Jessica…

  • On Monday, I had a mani…and changed up my color from purple/red to blue:

  • I finished reading The Perfect Couple, by Elin Hilderbrand: (click title for my review).  I enjoyed visiting the setting and the characters, and the story kept me engaged throughout, trying to figure out what happened to the maid of honor.
  • Now I’m reading and enjoying All Your Perfects, by Colleen Hoover. The story flips from “then to now” throughout; “it is a profound novel about a damaged couple whose potential future hinges on promises made in the past. This is a heartbreaking page-turner that asks: Can a resounding love with a perfect beginning survive a lifetime between two imperfect people?”
  • I started watching a new-to-me Netflix series, The Secret City, set in Australia.
  • On Sunday, I did a little rearranging, but not to worry:  the changes were light items that did not wrench my back.  I wanted to place two favorite Mary Engelbreit cookie jars in the pass-through between kitchen and living room, and tucked next to them is my little Mary Engelbreit cottage.

  •  Tuesday night, I had some pasta at my neighborhood CPK, and had to bring half of it home….

  • I’ve been watching Season 4 of Better Call Saul, on AMC; The Affair on Showtime; and tonight is Season 2 of The Sinner.  Of course I’m still watching Sharp Objects.  All through the summer, I’m glued to the DVR to see the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries series.

How is your week shaping up?  Do you have favorite books, movies, or adventures keeping you occupied?

  1. So…I loved the books I finished this week and I am loving Rush! I love your cookie jars and your pass through…getting up at 3:30? Yikes!

Did you know that Acorn TV is running a free week long trial of all of their programs. I started watching the Agatha Raisin series last night. It was fun and based on M.C. Beaton’s cozy mysteries. Den and I both love The Sinner this year…it’s so very good!

    • Thanks for visiting, Patty, and I didn’t get up at 3:30 today! Yay! More like 7:30, which is my new normal. Glad you enjoyed the books.

My cookie jars have been in my kitchen here and in my previous home for a few years. I love them!

I’ve never heard of Acorn TV…have to check it out.

  2. My reading has slowed to a crawl this summer. I have a new grandson so I’m helping my daughter out with baby and his two sisters (age 2 and 4). I’m exhausted at the end of the day! Looks like your daughter’s birthday celebration was fun!
I finished one book this week – a Christmas RaeAnne Thayne that comes out the end of September. It was kind of fun to read it now during the dog days of summer 🙂

    • Oh, wow, I remember when my grandkids were those ages! They were a handful! Lol

But cute. Enjoy them, and you can catch up on the reading later.

That Christmas book sounds good. Thanks for stopping by, Mary, and I enjoyed the birthday festivities.

    • Thanks, Kathy, I tried to go back to sleep, but it wasn’t happening. The better choice: get up, get on the computer, and then read a while. I also enjoyed that nap!

Heather always loves her birthdays, and this year, she especially enjoyed hosting the brunch in her new house. Thanks for the birthday wishes.

      Have a great weekend.

    • Thanks, Cheryl, and I have a pretty big Jim Shore collection, too…mostly Disney characters. It’s fun! Although some of mine are packed away…dusting is tedious. LOL.

I don’t remember the heat bothering me much when I was young…and I know it was just as hot back then.

      Enjoy your week!

  3. I love that nail colour. Lush!

Those cookie jars are too cute!!

I started watching the first series of The Affair back when it started but never got around to finishing it. I think they’re on the fourth season now right? Must get back to it. I do like Dominic West.

    • Thanks, Ceri, I love changing up the nails.

The cookie jars have been with me for years. I’m a bit addicted to Mary Engelbreit stuff. LOL

The Affair’s fourth season has been better than the third, IMO, but overall, I’ve been hooked on the show. Enjoy! There were some surprising twists in this one. I hope there is another season!
