WEEKLY UPDATES: READING, BLOGGING, VIEWING…

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

I enjoyed the week, starting with last weekend when I watched my recording of the Royal Wedding.  I loved it!  Afterwards, I spent the week reading and reviewing four books; enjoyed some outside activities, including shopping; and the movie  Book Club.  My Hulu and Netflix moments have included The Handmaid’s Tale and Imposters.

I’ve also been following the show Sweetbitter, on STARZ, and hope to actually read the book on which it’s based.  That book has been resting on Pippa for a while.

My exercise regime of bicycling while movie watching has been beneficial.  I hope to do more walking outdoors, too, so maybe I’ll walk at the mall.  My neighborhood walks are boring, and there are too many dogs!  LOL.

Let’s grab some coffee and get into the nitty-gritty of my week.

  1. Grabbing some coffee with you (you don’t have to tell me twice)…
Dogs are a challenge walking where I live too, go figure.
So you like The Handmaid’s Tale? I’ve considered but haven’t jumped in yet…maybe because every time I’ve seen someone comment on it they sound so traumatized (like a little too much realness for our times traumatized).
Finally, for once, I am not tempted by your usually delectable food images (that’s on me though, I don’t like sweet coconut treats but I do love coconuts and what we call coconut water – I would say it’s a Caribbean thing but most Caribbean people love sweet coconut treats, so it’s just a me thing).
    Lovely post as always.

    1. Thanks for visiting, Joanne, and yes, The Handmaid’s Tale is dark and somewhat depressing. That’s probably why I need the sweet Coconut…LOL.

I don’t know why the dogs barking when I walk keeps me from going there…but I guess I am a little afraid of what they might do.

      Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Elizabeth, and lucky you about the minimal dog population!

I am excited about The House Swap…and I loved having four 5 star reads. I couldn’t believe it until I started adding them to my post.

      Enjoy your week!

  2. I enjoyed the royal wedding too (beautiful weather for it), and I’ve heard Book Club is good. And I’m the same way- walking around the neighborhood bores me before long- I have to find ways to spruce it up. 🙂

The House swap looks good. And I need to get back on Hulu and watch Handmaid’s Tale- I haven’t started S2 yet.

Yummy looking pie! We went out to dinner tonight and I had salmon and shrimp- yum.

    1. Thanks for visiting, Greg, and I love salmon…I have shrimp more often, so salmon would be a real treat.

I am a big fan of royal celebrations, especially the weddings. I can’t wait for another season of The Crown.

I hope you end up enjoying Season II of Handmaid’s Tale, although “enjoyment” is probably not the word I would use to describe my feelings. It is darker than Season I.

I’m looking forward to The House Swap, but probably won’t get around to it for a while. Four review books for June…and a lot of books on my TBR.

      Enjoy your week!

The coconut cream looks yummy! I hope The Gunners is good – I plan to get to it. Bicycling while watching a movie is a great idea if only I had my place set up for it. Looks like you had a couple 5 star reads last week …. good for you!

    1. Thanks, Susan, I don’t often have so many 5 star reads in a week, but those books kept me captured until I had finished four of them. Glued to the pages! Enjoy your week, too. (And the coconut pie was good!).

  4. Yes… we don’t have anywhere within walking distance which is remotely nice – it’s all traffic-choked roads around here. But at least a 10 minute drive gets me down to the sea:). I thought the Royal Wedding delightful, too! Your books all look great fun – I hope you have a great week and best of luck with the cycling – it sounds like a good scheme:)

    1. Ooh, I would love to be ten minutes away from the sea! In the Central Valley of California, we are two hours from the sea…and the mountains are closer. Boring flat land in between. LOL

I skipped my cycling yesterday, as I was binge-watching Netflix. I may have broken my pattern, and I could have watched Netflix from the cycle. I may have to work twice as long today.

      Enjoy your week, Sarah.

I’m about the start The Handmaid’s Tale as I have just finished watching Godless on Netflix today and it’s the next on my list! I didn’t see the Royal Wedding, at the time we were watching Deadpool 2 in the cinema with my boyfriend… But I bet it was a beautiful wedding 🙂 Have a nice Sunday eveneing!!

  6. I’ve thought about getting an exercise bike and having one that’s wired up to a charger for my phone/kindle so I can generate electricity while I pedal!
I love walking and do quite a lot as it’s pretty around here. It tones my legs, but makes absolutely no difference to my stomach. On a completely unrelated note, the coconut pie looks delicious! Recipe post coming up?

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Stephanie Jane; I got my first exercise bike in the 80s…but sold it when I moved. When I got this one, I used it a lot, and then didn’t. I’m trying to be more diligent with it.

      Enjoy your week.

  7. I used to faithfully ride my exercise bike while watching tv shows or movies, every other day for at least 30 minutes. I tried to witch to audiobooks lately. But I’m not very consistent. Have a great week with your new ARCs. Anne – Books of My Heart

Sounds like you had a great week. I need to start walking and add that to my regular exercise routine. I have to start reading the Wendy Wax series. It looks so good and probably a great summer read.

Hope you have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Yvonne, and you would love the Wendy Wax series. I’ve read most of her books, but the Ten Beach Road series is one that is so much fun, spotlighting friendship and the renovation of beach houses. They hooked me from the beginning.

  9. I was able to watch the royal wedding while on a flight to Arizona! I especially loved the cello performance. Such beautiful music! Good for you on the exercise. I have my physical on Tuesday and wonder what my blood test results will show about the stressful six months I’ve just come through. Oh well, it is what it is, right? I hope you have a lovely week, Laurel.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Mary, and watching the royal wedding sounds like a good way to spend the flight. Enjoy your getaway. I love parts of Arizona, like Sedona.

Those blood tests are like report cards, aren’t they? I’m not that happy with them lately, either. Hope yours is a good one.

    1. Thanks, Aleen, I have had the exercise bike in my bedroom for years, angled toward the TV…but I’ve only recently gotten into the routine again. Loving it!

I am a big fan of Wendy Wax and her Ten Beach Road series. Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks, Kathy, I think it looks great, too. The dogs and the blossoms (allergies) make outdoor walking less desirable for me. But…if I were at the sea, it would be great! LOL.

      Enjoy your week.

    1. I had set the DVR for Sweetbitter, so it appears, and I’m unable to forget. I’m enjoying it, and soon hope to read the book (which I had forgotten about until this show popped up).

Thanks for visiting, Candace, and have a great week. I am excited about the new Wendy Wax.

I like Mall walking too. I enjoy the air conditioning and the flat terrain. Duluth is a very hilly city which makes walking in my neighborhood more of a hill-climbing exercise than I really like. I sold my exercise bike when I moved but regret it a little for those days I want to exercise but don’t want to leave the house. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    1. I like the air conditioning in the malls, too. My first bike was one I sold when I moved from my townhouse…and then didn’t get another until I moved here 11 years ago. I haven’t been as diligent about using it until lately. I do like having an option that doesn’t require going out.

Enjoy your week, Kathy, and thanks for stopping by.

    1. Thanks for visiting, Cheryl, I liked watching the recording I made of the royal wedding…it was a nice distraction from other stuff going on.

I’m looking forward to the Wendy Wax book. Enjoy your week!
