WEEKLY UPDATES: THIS & THAT…

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

A hot week with cozy times in air-conditioned rooms.  Some family time, some outings, and very little reading or blogging.

The family time centered around Remembering Jessica, my step-granddaughter lost to us last week.  We are focusing on the happy memories of her…and her free spirit.  Below, Diana and Jessica at the beach as little girls.

With my thoughts on family and mourning a lost life, I managed to read and review only two books, but one was a NetGalley ARC, and the other was a purchased book that engaged me throughout.  I wrote only 4 blog posts!  That’s a first, I think.

I enjoyed new episodes on The Handmaid’s Tale, Season II.  I’m streaming on the new BluRay player in my bedroom.

Tomorrow I plan to watch another episode of The Good Fight, Season II.  And maybe I will read and blog more this week.  Speaking of blogging, I loved re-watching the Julie & Julia movie the other night…have you seen it?  She blogged about food…and then wrote the book on which the movie was based.  Yes, old news.

So…let’s grab some coffee and chat.

That was my week.  What did yours look like?

My son and DIL are in town this week, and he and I had brunch on Wednesday.  Take a peek at the delicious food…mine was an egg-white spinach omelet with a mimosa.

    1. I agree, Patty…it was definitely a lot more relaxing, and I think that savoring a book makes it more memorable. Which is probably why I remember books I read years ago, but can’t tell much about any of the ones I read last week. Oh, wait! That could be due to my “senior moments.” LOL

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about your loss! Oh my gosh. Thoughts and prayers your way and to your family.

    I need to get to Handmaid’s S2 soon… can’t believe it’s back already!

Glad you got to see your son. 🙂 Looks like a yummy brunch.

    1. Thanks, Greg, and I appreciate the condolences. Family and friends are the best during difficult times…and that brunch was delicious.

Season II is really good already…there were two new episodes. I guess more new ones come every Wednesday. I’ll have to get used to that schedule.

      Enjoy your watching…and reading.

  2. A sad time yet great to take time to remember a beautiful person. Family is such a blessing even is sorrowful times. Oh all those books incoming I want to read. You have reminded me about the Mary Alice Monroe book and I have How to Walk Away on reserve at the library.

    1. Thanks for the condolences…and for the reminder of how much family means during the dark times.

I do love Mary Alice Monroe’s books. A movie is on Hallmark right now (The Beach House), and I haven’t read that particular book, but I’m loving Andie MacDowell as the mother.

      Enjoy your week, Kathryn.

  4. Again, I’m so sorry about your step-granddaughter. I hope that time will eventually begin to heal your aching heart.

Happy you had a nice time with your son. I always enjoy having lunch with my daughter.

As for your books I’m really interested in how you will feel about Sisters Like Us. I have several Susan Mallery books on my shelf but haven’t read any by her yet as well. And The Book Club is on my tbr, so I’ll be looking forward to your thoughts on that one too.

    Have a great week!!

  5. I’m sorry about your tragic loss, but I’m glad that you’re concentrating on remembering the good things rather than the less healthy ways of mourning. Not that there’s anything wrong with other ways of mourning – everyone is different – but I think remembering the good times is a much happier way to go.

I hope your following weeks are filled with healing times.

    1. Thanks, JoAnn, I am feeling the warmth from everyone in the blogosphere…

The Book Club caught my eye because I love Mary Alice Monroe. Also, though, there’s a movie coming with the same title, but I’m guessing the film is not based on this book. I will read it before I see the movie, though.

The cast includes some favorite actors: Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, & Mary Steenburgen. I am eager to see it!

  7. I am so sorry to hear about your step granddaughter. It is so hard to lose someone special and when they are young it is even harder. I am glad you have family and friends surrounding you, and hopefully you will find comfort in your books. Hugs.

    1. Thanks, Heidi, I am enjoying having my youngest son and family around; he lives at the Oregon border, so we don’t see them often.

We’ve had lots of time to chat and enjoy lunches out.

      Have a great week!

  8. So sorry for your family loss. You are in my prayers.
I am glad that you were able to spend time with your son and dil.
Its certainly okay to not read lots and not post lots each week. Sometimes live issues take precedence.
    We understand.
Hope this is a good week for you with good reading..
