WEEKLY UPDATES: A POTPOURRI OF EVENTS…

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

The weather is heading upward to the 90s this weekend.  I guess I should prepare the AC…just in case.

I read and reviewed four books this week, and they were a mix of NetGalley review books (2), a library book, and one purchased book.  There was a bit of mystery, a nonfiction book, and vicarious traveling to lovely settings.

The last episode of Scandal aired…and I’m sad to see the characters go.  But in some ways, I liked putting the political dirty dealings behind me.

Next Wednesday, The Handmaid’s Tale returns to Hulu for its second season.  And on Sunday, there will be another Season II episode of The Good Fight.  Loving it!

This week, Son #2 is in Louisville, Kentucky, working with a small crew producing an indie film.  Below, see stars:  Jason Patric, on the left; and Toby Kebbell, right…

So…those are some tidbits from my week.  Grab some coffee, and let’s chat about the details.

  1. Wow Jason Patric. Cool that your son is working on the production! I liked Patric on The Lost Boys and more recently in Wayward Pines. And 90’s already?? Yikes!

I’m looking forward to more Handmaid’s Tale!

That cover of Beach Bliss makes me want to be looking out over the ocean somewhere…

    1. Thanks, Maree, my son normally works in the financial side of movie production, but has always had the desire to be hands-on. I have decided he loves this work because I took him to sooo many movies when he was a kid. LOL.

      Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks, Nicci, I had already read the book a couple of times, and seen an older movie based on the book back in 1990, starring Natasha Richardson and Faye Dunaway.

I am so happy to have another look at it in the Hulu series!

      Enjoy your week!

  2. I am struggling to review books at the moment. I have two outstanding but can’t find the energy to write. I did love Let Me Lie so hope you enjoy that and am looking forward to a new Diane Chamberlain.

    1. Thanks, Emma, I would never get the books reviewed if I didn’t do it immediately after finishing each one. I won’t let myself move ahead with other books until it’s done.

Sometimes I start a Word doc before I finish the book, writing notes…so by the time I’m done, it’s almost written.

But…writing reviews is the least fun part. Sigh. Good luck getting your review mojo back!

I need to catch up on The Handmaid’s Tale, I’ve only seen one episode so far. I don’t have as much time for TV as I used to sadly. I’m excitedly waiting for the second season of Westworld, it took a while for me to get into the first but ending was incredible, I can’t wait to see what they do with it next!

    1. Wow, that is serendipitous, Deb. I decided to read it (and watch the movie on Prime) after I had finished Christine Lahti’s new memoir (see above in my list). And, of course, I had to find some of her other movies to watch again.

      Enjoy the book club discussion!

  4. I hope your son is enjoying working on the film, though I’m aware the hours are insanely long… In the meantime, I hope you are able to keep sufficiently cool – we have had temperatures in the low 70s this week which was wonderful after such a looong, chilly winter… As ever, your reading schedule looks very organised and interesting:). Have a great week, Laurel!

    1. Thanks, Sarah, my son has been texting me with photos from the location and the set. He has always loved this part of movie production, but mostly his work is in the financial part.

I like how excited he gets about the hands-on aspects.

Enjoy your week, and I don’t enjoy the heat here in our summers…but I’ll take it over the storms and blizzards!

That’s great about your sons indie film! Hope he enjoys working on it. Enjoy all your new books. And the apple pie a la mode sounds delicious! Have a great week.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Laura, and I can’t imagine living anywhere else, probably because I’ve been in California my whole life. Every time I vacation in other places, though, I start to long for a change.

Enjoy your week! I’ve never read Susan Mallery, so I’m looking forward to this book.

  7. The 90s is so hard to imagine right now. We do not usually hit that point until nearly August. Thank goodness. I do hope you are able to enjoy the sun though 🙂 The indie film project sounds fun! I hope it is a huge success! I am looking for to Season 2 of the Handmaid’s Tale as well. Have a great week!

Your week seems so organized and unscattered. Reading four books is quite an accomplishment. I get to distracted lately and most of my reading is at night. I need to stay focused! Like you! Pie must be a theme running through friends this week. I made a Key Lime Pie this morning. The recipe came from a cozy mystery I read a few years ago and I have loved this recipe ever since!

    1. I don’t like making pies…LOL. But I do enjoy eating them, which is why the restaurants in my neighborhood are favorite places.

Thanks for visiting, Patty, and reading four books doesn’t happen that often for me. Three books is my normal pace.

I enjoyed Scandal, but sometimes it really got out of hand with the political dirty dealings. I’m good with them ending it and I’m sure there will be other shows that will replace it.

Beach Bliss and Let Me Lie look really good. I hope you enjoy your books and have a great week!

  10. Yes, get that AC ready! Ours was scheduled to be serviced in a couple of weeks, but decided to give out early. A tech came yesterday, but we need a new motor which they’ll hopefully bring back on Monday. In the meantime it’s toast warm here 😉

I read Housekeeping years ago with my book club. Don’t remember much of the story, but I do remember the wonderful writing. Enjoy.

    1. Oh, I hope you have your AC motor soon! I don’t know how hot it gets there, but it is probably humid, too.

I’m looking forward to Housekeeping…as I’ve read a few of the author’s other books. I thought I had read this book, but I think I had just seen the movie. I watched the movie again this week.

Enjoy your books and that delicious food. Thanks for visiting.

  11. Great books, I’ll need to read the next Joanne D book in the series, I am a way off Beach Bliss but you can pat yourself on the back because you introduced me to this series. I never got into Scandal, but I do have the DVD of Season 1. I should watch it then decide about the rest. The next season for us of Grey’s A begins this week and I usually watch that.

    1. I hadn’t watched Scandal as it played out on the network, since I wasn’t impressed by the previews I’d seen. But then I was looking for something to watch on Netflix one day and started “a few episodes,” and I was soon hooked.

I’m glad you are enjoying the DeMaio books…I’ll take that pat on the back. LOL.

Thanks for stopping by, Kathryn, and have a great week.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, AJ…I don’t think I’d like snow until summer…but the hot, hot weather isn’t great either.

So far it isn’t bad. The AC works…although the PG&E bills are huge in the summer months. LOL

    1. We’re pretty used to the hot weather…and I don’t mind 90s. I’m not crazy about 110 and over, though, which we have pretty regularly in July and August.

I liked the ending of Scandal, too. I was glad Olivia seemed ready to be with Fitz again.

I love Diane Chamberlain’s books. Enjoy your week!

  12. Sounds like you had a short spring. We’ve had temps up to mid 80s but still cool at night.
You have lots of interesting looking books. I took a peek at Housekeeping to make the connection between the title and the train track. Sounds different.
The pie ala mode looks yummy; even more so with a book. 🙂
    Happy Reading!

  13. And I was excited we’ll be seeing 50s and 60s this week 🙂 Enjoy your warmer temps. All of your books look good to me. I need to read another DeMaoi book (I’m behind by a few). They’re always good. Sounds like your son has an interesting job!

    1. I’m always excited to get more books from DeMaio….and I wouldn’t mind 50s and 60s here. The summers are long.

We’re supposed to have 90s all week long.

My son loves his work. He works in the financial end of a production company, but likes to try a hands-on approach to some projects.

  14. I hope you enjoy Let Me Lie! Also, isn’t it crazy that Scandal’s finally over? I totally agree with your mixed feelings about letting the series go! Happy reading, as always ❤️

    1. Thanks for visiting, Kaila, and I’m loving Let Me Lie so far. I’m expecting some stunning reveals as we go along.

Scandal was a series that didn’t appeal to me from the previews, but when I binge-watched it on Netflix, I was hooked.

      Enjoy your week!

  15. We don’t get 90s until July and August and that is okay with me. I’m happy if we just get to 60 this time of the year. I like your reading plans for the week. I’m mixing books from TBR mountain and review books myself. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  16. How fun for your son.

Four books in a week is terrific. I’m lucky if I finish one a week.

A new one by Diane Chamberlain…nice.

Love the cover on HOUSEKEEPING and BEACH BLISS.

ENJOY your week and your weather. The sun finally showed up in Pittsburgh along with 60-degree temperatures.

    1. Thanks, Elizabeth, I would have loved to have cooler weather for a while longer, but that never seems to happen here. Short springs followed by long, hot summers.

I usually finish three books each week, sometimes two. But I had a lot of NetGalley books for April and May to finish up.

Enjoy your week! My son is having fun on this movie shoot.
