WEEKLY UPDATES: MOVIES, BOOKS, & YUMMY FOOD…

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

What a week!  It started off brilliantly, with one book read quickly.  Then the second book (a library book) seemed to slog along, even though it was also very much a page turner.  I kept getting distracted, with errands, etc., and also having coffee with a friend on Monday.  Eventually I finished it…and then went on to read two more, one of which was a Vine review book.  A total of four, but I finished the fourth one on Saturday.

I’m still trying to rely more on library books and review books, but I couldn’t resist three purchases this week.  NetGalley came through for me, too, with 4 new books!

Last weekend, I went to the movies and enjoyed Chappaquiddick.

I’m going to grab another cup of coffee and chat more about the week.

  1. I am such a fan of Wolitzer’s books. I have scheduled her new book on my TBR for a few weeks, but it keeps getting bumped at the last second. I need to get ahead on my YA and then I am definitely reading it.

  2. Wow four books is great! And I need to get more library books too, I buy WAY too many. My poor Kindle…

Ooh Shadow Dancing! Can’t wait to get to that one. I just read the short Diamond Girl this week. And The New Neighbors looks good, as does Bring Me Back…

    Sesame shrimp- yummy!

    1. Thanks, Greg, that Sesame Shrimp was delicious!

I was excited to get Shadow Dancing…and Bring Me Back.

I am eager to start reading all of these…but first, some May NetGalley books.

I hope you enjoy all of your books…and your week.

    1. Thanks, Tressa, and as I was opening my e-mail this morning, I found another library book! Yay! I’m loving this … (It was Sisters Like Us).

Hopefully the week will be a good one…enjoy yours, too!

  3. I’ve been a moody reader of late and so I have avoided NG but of course, you have me curious. The mysteries and thrillers in particular. I’ve kind of fallen of romance since my daughter and son-in-law divorced, but I am a romantic at heart and I am sure I will come around. I am jealous of your coffee Monday with friends. Hope the week ahead is amazing for you!

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Kimberly…and for hosting. I do know what you mean about romance…so most of the time, I mix them in carefully with my suspense/thrillers….and I also love a good romantic suspense book.

Enjoy your books and your week!

  4. Nice list of incoming books, I am refraining from looking at NG at the moment as much as I can! I want space to read other books. I am looking forward thought to the new Mary Kay Andrews which I do have for review. That shrimp looks yummy.

    1. Thanks, Kathryn, I’m now getting approvals for NetGalley books I requested a while ago, so I have mixed feelings as I see them pile up on my stack! (Well, on my Kindle).

I do love a good Mary Kay Andrews book and haven’t read one in a while.

      Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Maree, I don’t like some shrimp, but I can’t resist the Sesame Shrimp.

I added Tangerine to my wish list when I saw it on another blogger’s page…and then she told me it was on sale…so I couldn’t resist.

      Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks, Lexxie, I’m loving my stack of books right now…and Not Her Daughter was not one I’d requested, but when it was offered, I knew I had to read it.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for hosting.

I always love coffee with a friend.

    1. Thanks, Deb, I do love my TBR right now…although I still have some older books I purchased that are nagging at me. I hope to get things under control more, now that I am not just buying every book I see.

      Enjoy your week!

  5. Four books is a great reading week – right now, it’s in the realms of fantasy as far as I’m concerned… I love the look of Shadow Dancing, Laurel – it looks great fun. And I aspire to drink something called Blushing Geisha… Have a great week:)

    1. Ha-ha…that Blushing Geisha is offered at the bistro next to the movie theater, and eating lunch there before the movies is part of my “habit.” So much so that the servers know what drink I want when I sit down. LOL.

I’ve never seen it anywhere else…but it is a treat.

I will probably not read as many books this week…that seems to be my pattern. But as long as I enjoy each one, it’s good.

Thanks for visiting, Sarah, and have a great week.

    1. Thanks for visiting, Cricket (Latoya?); I had to buy The New Neighbors, as my library doesn’t have it…and I didn’t want to wait! I do love the look of it.

I hope my errands and other distractions let me read this week! Right now, I’m LOVING Paris Ever After. Enjoy your week!

  6. Love the martini! Was the Chappaquiddick movie quite good?? Any secrets that surprised you in it, or did you already know everything in it? I just got the Tangerine novel from the library — it looks like it’s going to be a good one. Enjoy your week.

    1. Thanks, Susan, I enjoyed Chappaquiddick (and the martini), but nothing really surprised me about the movie. The acting was good and I loved revisiting that whole chapter in our history. It is strange how nothing the Democrats do turn me off like what is happening in the WH these days! It’s nice to realize that again.

      Have a great week!

I want to see Chappaquiddick. That looks really good. I have a few of the same books from NetGalley that you do. I’m looking forward to reading them. Have a great week!

    1. I am very excited about my NetGalley stack right now! So many lovely ones…I’m really enjoying Paris Ever After…and if I hadn’t needed a nap, I would have finished it already.

I hope you enjoy Chappaquiddick, Yvonne. Have a great week!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Barb, and I loved B. A. Paris’s first two books, so I’m eager to enjoy this one.

I’ve alternated my genres this past week, between family drama and mysteries. I like the mix.

      Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks for visiting, JJ, and I LOVE that Blushing Geisha, a drink I usually have with lunch just before the movies…the bistro is next door to the theater.

I tried to get The Female Persuasion from the library, but the wait was too long (for my impatient bookworm soul!). Tangerine was on sale the day I was directed to it by another blogger. Thanks to Diane, I got to buy more than the two books I was allowing myself last week.

      Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Laura, and two of my NetGalley ARCs were books I had not requested, but they were offered. I just had to accept them, right? LOL

I am really excited about them all. Enjoy your books, and have a great week.

  8. What an adorable cover on NOT HER DAUGHTER.

Ooooo….you are going to love THE HIGH TIDE CLUB, Laurel.

Love the cover on WHAT IF YOUR WHOLE LIFE WAS BASED ON LIES.

I will be looking forward to what you think about THE NEW NEIGHBORS.

We are to have rain and snow after an 80-degree day on Friday. Where is Spring and Summer?

    Have a wonderful week.

    1. I’m loving Paris Ever After right now…almost finished. Lots of beautiful scenes, new beginnings, French connections (see what I did?), and emotional endings.

I also love the anticipation of The High Tide Club.

Enjoy your week and your books, Elizabeth.

  10. That sesame shrimp looks amazing… I’m hungry for lunch now! Hope to see the Chappaquiddick movie soon. Most people seem to like it. I have some catching up to so with Julie Mulhern’s series, and am on the library waiting list for Meg Wolitzer’s new novel. Hope you have great week!

    1. Thanks for visiting, JoAnn, and I am using the library more, but I got too impatient for The Female Persuasion. I ended up this week with a book from the library, 4 from NetGalley, and my purchases. A work in progress.

      The Sesame Shrimp was delicious!

      Enjoy your week!

  11. I just got sucked into a new series. I grabbed Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn from TBR mountain when I set aside another book due to boredom and now want to read the whole series. The only problem is that only book two is already on TBR mountain. It is hard to lower TBR mountain when this sort of thing happens. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

It sounds like you had a fairly good week, Laurel-Rain. I need to spend more time focusing on my review books, I think. And stay away from NetGalley. LOL I hope you enjoy your new books! Have a great week.

    1. Thanks for visiting, Wendy, and I’ve actually stayed away from NetGalley lately, but have been getting some approvals for books I hadn’t even requested. But when tempted, I do add the books.

      Enjoy your week!
