WEEKLY UPDATES: A RAINY DAY…AND READING…

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

After last week’s great reading (five books!), it was inevitable that the following week would be less than impressive.  I only read  and reviewed TWO books, and I’m into the third one, which I may finish today.  But I’m savoring the books.

Also…the week included a series of outside activities, like a mani-pedi on Tuesday and hair styling on ThursdayBelow, left, I’m relaxing over a movie (Motherhood), with Uma Thurman, Minnie Driver, and Anthony Edwards.  On the right…see my new hair style sprinkled with more purple than last time.

So…is it any wonder that the reading came in second place?  I also tackled some long overdue “spring cleaning.”

Today I’m finishing up some tasks…and then, because it is raining, I may curl up on my office sofa, where I feel so cozy.  Let’s grab some coffee and chat about the week.

  1. Hey yay for purple! And Minnie Driver… I haven’t seen a movie with her in AGES.

It’s been raining (and snowing) a bit here too.

Looks like some good thrillers, and Paris Ever after has a nice spring-like cover. And ooh pot roast! Looks delish as usual!!!

  2. The Pot Roast looks yummy and the Christine Lahti book looks good to me. I had not seen that come out so thx for bringing it to my attention. She’s a good actress & Id be interested to hear her perspectives. Enjoy your rain & week!

    1. Thanks, Susan, some of my favorite movies have been those in which she starred….and from her choice of movies, I had decided that she would definitely have an interesting view of things. Enjoy your week!

  3. That French pot roast looks yummy, you must have some great restaurants near you. Or did you cook it yourself? Ah Spring cleaning -always a good idea and I need to do some even though its Autumn. I didn’t get that much read either this week.

    1. Thanks, Kathryn, and I do live in an area with several shopping malls around the corner, each with yummy restaurants. I alternate between them, and this French Pot Roast comes from Mimi’s, which is part of a chain, but it doesn’t seem like one. I enjoy that place, although it is often crowded.

I hope you have a great week, and I finished my first book yesterday! I couldn’t stop reading it. (A Turn for the Bad). It wasn’t 5 stars, but it was a nice 4.5.

  4. Ooo… I LOVE your hair, Laurel! It really suits you – I take it the problems you had with the allergies are now fixed? I regularly only manage 2 books a week, so I’m still impressed:)). I hope you have a good week weatherwise – it is still cold and wet here – particularly today as I have the grandchildren!

    1. Thanks, Sarah, and no, the allergies remain, but the purple is not a hair dye…it is something else, which I don’t quite understand…but it produces no reaction.

Enjoy the grandchildren! Mine are all pretty much grown…and time with them is less frequent.

I hope to read some more today. Have a great week!

  5. The french pot roast looks delicious! It’s one of my favorite comfort foods too. Unfortunately I’m trying to stay away from red meat right now since I’ve been having some stomach problems, so no pot roasts for me 😦 Before I Let You Go looks amazing. I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts on it. Good luck with your tasks, and have a great week! 🙂

    1. Ooh, sorry about the red meat conflict…I don’t eat a lot of it, but when I do, my favorite is this very pot roast.

Thanks for visiting, Lauren, and I am looking forward to Before I Let You Go…and my other books, too.

      Enjoy your week!

  6. I love your hair! So fun! I’ve been thinking of doing something fun like that and adding a dash of color like burgundy in the Fall. I had my highlights re-done yesterday morning since I was long over due. Happy reading and the French Pot Roast looks delish.

    1. Thanks for visiting, Nai, and I am enjoying the quick fix that comes from a dash of color. It lasts for several weeks, too. The French Pot Roast was just what I needed this week. Have a great day and upcoming week.

    1. Thanks, Cindy, I am off to a good start with the week, having finished my first book yesterday (A Turn for the Bad). But…it doesn’t always continue at that pace, as I sometimes get distracted by other things. But it’s all good…right?

Enjoy your week! Minnie Driver was at her comic best in this movie.

    1. Thanks, Sunny, I had to wait until I developed an allergy to all the hair dyes…and then my daughter stripped all the color from my hair so I am slowly going silver. Then…along came the purple! LOL

So…long story short, you have to go through a process…and get older.

Thanks for visiting and enjoy your week.

Love you hair! A mani-pedi sounds relaxing. Hope you enjoy the new books. Before I Let You Go was so good. Your French beef stew looks delicious, makes me want some now. Have a great week!

  8. First of all I have to say I love your hair – it looks even better now.
Secondly the dreaded spring cleaning eugh I spent yesterday defrosting the freezer one of the worst and messiest jobs ever but sadly it couldn’t be ignored any longer.
Your books look great as always – definitely sold on the unreliable witnesses and I do hope
D you enjoy Before I Let You Go.

    1. Egads, Cleo, defrosting the freezer is the worst! Happily, I have a frost free freezer now, but do remember the struggles of that task!

I am excited about my new books. Enjoy your week!

I’m glad you like my hair.

I have wanted to read the Sheila Connelly series for a long time. It looks great. Paris Ever After looks good, too. So does the Christine Lahti book. I used to like her on Chicago Hope. Hope you have a great week!

    1. From what I can tell, Mary, there is wine in the French Pot Roast…and maybe some slightly different spices. I just know I love them both: regular Pot Roast…and the French kind.

      Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks, Laura, I am enjoying my Overdrive app and getting library books that way. Although I love doing that, there are some books I don’t think I can wait weeks and weeks to get! LOL

      Enjoy your reading.

  10. On this cold and snow flurry day, the pot roast looks so delicious. I listen to a lot of audios on Overdrive and really like it. It helps the book budget. LOL I had plans to do some spring cleaning on spring break but a virus foiled that plan. Hope you have a great week.

  11. Sounds like a good week despite not reading as much as you usually do. I am so tempted to add some color to my whitish hair. I have a new thing today as I attend my first chair yoga class. I hope it is fun. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  12. Here in the UK, we seem to have had a deluge of rain, of biblical proportions and lasting for weeks on end now. We are reliably informed that after the end of this week, something like a normal spring season is about to kick in, but I won’t believe it until I see it!

I love the new hair colour. Getting my hair cut back into shape and re-colour touched, always makes me feel a bit more cheerful and confident.

I have just finished reading ‘Paris Ever After’ and thoroughly enjoyed it. Despite being the sequel to an earlier book, this one works great as a stand alone story, as the author has added a short ‘previously’ chapter, to bring you up to date with the story so far. There is also a nice surprise at the end of the book, which I hope to see you post a sample of, in due course 🙂

I hope that you enjoy all your reading and have a good week 🙂

My reading has taken a backseat too. In fact, I’m now having trouble settling on a book to read. I think my absence has put me in a bit of slump. 😦 We did some spring cleaning, but there’s a lot more I want to do still. I hope you have a wonderful week! Rain sounds so nice. It’s already over 90 here.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Wendy, and even though I’ve finished one book so far this week, I keep setting my current read aside to watch TV, etc.

Enjoy whatever you pick up to read. I suspect that I will continue to be distracted this week.

  14. I am digging the purple hair!! Tres cool. (me, trying to be French there, keeping in theme with your dinner)
I had a hard time with the Kelly Rimner book and had to DNF. I had a sort of similar experience while having my son (minus the drug addiction) and it was too much. But obviously it is well written!
