HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!

Another reading week that was good…and not so good.  I quickly read my fabulous first book last Sunday, and then spent the next three days slogging through a book that I didn’t love at all.  Sigh.  Now I’m halfway finished with another one that is pretty good…I hope to turn the last page later today. Finished this third book.    Click for review below.

So that’s how the week went with my reading.  The rest of my life?  Annoying errands, a doctor’s appointment, and lots of Netflix viewing.  Still Parenthood, but I’m almost finished with Season 6, the last one.  Now I’m going to grab some more coffee, and get down to the details.  Why don’t you do the same?

    Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Sorry to hear the reading week was mixed. I hate it when that happens, when I’m struggling w/ a book …

    The Neighbors looks good, as does Sometimes I Lie ( I am LOVING that title). The French Girl I have coming up, and Not That I Could Tell… I may be reading that one as well, looks like something I might like.

    1. Thanks for visiting, AJ….and I need to stop buying those books in the first place! If I haven’t read the author before and haven’t read rave recommendations, I should stop before I “click to buy.”

    1. Thanks, Deb, I’ll drink to that. Since I’ve figured out how to download library e-books, I’m ready to “borrow” instead of buying everything, especially if I’m not sure of the book.

  9. Happy St Patrick’s Day to you, Laurel! Yes… we have the fun of putting the clocks forward next weekend. Not that you’d know Spring was springing with icy winds and snow on the ground – AGAIN! I hope the coming week is more fun and less hassle for youL:)

    1. Thanks, Evelina, after a mild winter, we are suddenly having rain. But I can’t complain, as it has also been mild.

    1. Thanks, Kimberly, and I do occasionally DNF…unfortunately, the book I was slogging through was one that I had already read until 60%…and despite its unfortunate aspects, I wanted to know what happened to the MC. Sigh.

    I was kinda in a slump myself. Only got through two books. Not even feeling like I want to read so I have been doing audiobooks – reading but not reading. I hope to get back to more reading my TBRChallenge books this week. Happy reading to you!

    Do you like The French Girl?

    Don’t you think some weeks and some books are just like that? They start off great and then just slug along! I really loved my library books this week…I read two in a row without reviews! It’s like being free!

    1. Thanks, Patty, and I loved The French Girl. Finished it quickly…and it was a delight after reading that horrible My Absolute Darling.

      That was a book I should have “borrowed,” if I’d been able to at the time…those books can easily be DNFs.

        I know exactly what you mean…every time you don’t buy an ebook but get it from Libby instead…you should put that money in a special jar and see how much you save at the end of 6 months! Now there’s a task!

    1. Thanks, Kathryn, I hope to sit down with my iPhone and request a few more library e-books. I have downloaded one borrowed book…but I’m curious about how the system works when we finish reading the books.

  19. I was on Spring Break this past week and hoped to read lots but managed to only finish one I started before the break and start a new one. I’m listening to a book that’s not that great right now and want to jump call it quits. I love baked potato soup, I’ve never made it but want to give it a try. Enjoy all your new books, I see some great titles listed and hope you have a great week!

  25. Aw, sorry to hear about your disappointing reading. I’ve had a few of these earlier this year, though this week was really good to me; I hope the coming week is just as good for you!

    We have two books in common this week, as I also added Let me Lie and Sometimes I Lie to my shelves. Both look good! But I’ve been eyeing The Neighbors too.

  30. It’s awful to spend so much time on a book you’re not enjoying… glad it’s finally over. I put a couple of Susan Wiggs books on my mother’s kindle and she loved them. I don’t know this author and would be interested in your recommendations. She is very prolific! The soup looks wonderful. Hope your week is off to a good start 🙂

    1. Thanks, JoAnn, I have enjoyed a few books by Wiggs…so I know that they will satisfy my need for lighter stuff in between thrillers.

      If I am more careful about buying books I’m not sure of, I should do better with that whole “slogging” thing.

      I have added the Overdrive App to my phone, so I plan to borrow more.

  32. I had a poor reading week as well. I only made it through two books. I just felt distracted and tired after the time change and I watched too much college basketball. Hoping to get back on track this week.

    1. Thanks, Joann, I am off to a good reading start…I hope to get to the library book soon, but first I might read another of my purchases. I finished my NG ARC for 3/27…and next week I’ll start on April.

  36. Hi Laurel, glad you liked the Quindlen book. I know I’ll pick it up at sometime. The Absolute Darling book I’ll have to pass on — too rough for me. We finished Season 2 of The Crown. Have you finished that? I liked it perhaps better than Season 1. Very good. But now Claire Foy will leave the show for Season 3, Ugh! Enjoy your week.

  38. We have taken a break from Costco soup for now since we’ve been buying the same ol’ ones twice a month. I hope to try split pea now that we have an instant pot that needs to get tried out. Even though I’m an adult, I still enjoyed the Cleary books. I hope to listen to the Ramona ones after I finish two other audiobooks.

    1. Ooh, those awful review copies are the worst! We’re locked in…trapped. I am being more careful these days about accepting books from authors unknown-to-me. If I know an author’s previous work, I’m less likely to find myself slogging through something.

      When I’ve bought the book myself, I am also very annoyed. Money down the toilet and all. I am planning to get more books from the library and only buy those from authors I’ve read before. Sigh.
