WEEKLY UPDATES: WELCOME TO MY JOURNEY…

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

Welcome to my new home for Weekly Updates.  I change the venue periodically, but it has been a long while since I brought the post here.

My week has been slow and a little lazy, with only two books read and reviewed.  The first one was finished within 24 hours, and the second lingered for most of the week.  Life got in the way…tedious tax appointment, errands, etc.  I caught up on my DVR queue, and then I continued binge-watching Parenthood.  The show is one which I’ve watched before, but it felt like comfort viewing family style.  I hope to find something new to watch on Netflix this next week.  Oh, and The Good Fight will start streaming its Season II on March 4.

The good news!  The Olympics are done (sorry, fans, just not for me!), and we’re back to regular programming…which means This Is Us, TGIT lineup, etc.  Happy days.

Let’s grab some coffee and chat about the week…

Ha ha I like the Olympics but I’m kinda glad they’re winding down? The summer games are definitely more my thing, more events I’m interested in. And I’m sorta between Netflix shows too, although I’ve been sampling a few, looking for that next obsession… 🙂

I think I’m adding the French Girl to my TBR after reading Katharine’s post.

Yum! Why does Marie Callenders always look so good???

Your week sounded organized and orderly. I think it’s ok to just read two books…that’s still more than average the average reading person! But I know what you mean…I feel a sort of stress if I don’t read a certain number of books per week. But I am trying not to do that…I am trying to do other things and not feel guilty about books. Sigh!

Do you have pie at Marie Calander’s? When we lived in Santa Clara that was our go to pie place after a movie!

    1. I was surprised to get the Delinsky book, Kathryn; I hadn’t even requested it, since I already had several ARCs from NetGalley. But when I got the e-mail, I couldn’t resist. Enjoy your weekend! Thanks for visiting.

  3. I’m super curious about Sunburn and can’t wait to hear your thoughts. I’m not a big Olympics fan either but I do catch the highlights on TV news. That being said, I’ll be glad for regular programs to start back up. I LOVE Parenthood and watched the entire thing last January and February. I was thrilled yesterday to find that Santa Clarita Diet Season 2 starts on Netflix mid-March. I loved the first season. Have a wonderful week!

    1. Thanks, Barb, I can’t wait to start reading Sunburn, either…and I want to binge-watch more shows on Netflix. I wanted to like Santa Clarita Diet, but all the vomiting was too much for me. LOL

      Enjoy your week!

I like the Olympics and always say I’m going to watch some every night before reading, but yeah, no… Just the first few days and then very spotty afterwards. I’m ready for my shows to come back now.

I read and enjoyed The Promise Between Us. Because of the author’s family history with the illness she gets it right and makes it believable. I also enjoyed Look For Me. I’d like to read Sunburn and Before and Again if I get the chance. Have a great week watching tv and reading!

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Kari, and I think I’d even watch some of the Olympics if they didn’t highjack all my favorite shows…LOL.

As I immerse myself in The Promise Between Us, I can tell that the author is well-informed. I think a lot of people have a limited view of OCD, so it was great to get a “tutorial” through the characters’ experiences.

Look for Me was also fabulous. I hope you enjoy all of your books and your week.

    1. Thanks, Nai, and I didn’t watch the Olympics, but other things seemed to interfere with my reading; so far this week, I’m off to a good start, fully engrossed in The Promise Between Us.

Enjoy your reading and your week…thanks for visiting.

  5. Having a week where things slow down a bit is part of Life’s rich tapestry – and while I’ve LOVED the Olympics, I can understand if you don’t enjoy it, the upheaval to the regular scheduling must be annoying. Have a great week, Laurel.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Katherine, and I hope to enjoy The French Girl. I love thrillers, as you’ve probably noticed, but I also enjoy cozy mysteries, women’s fiction, and memoirs. Enjoy your week, and here’s to getting back into the normal routines!

Sometimes lazy is good. Lately books have been taking me a week to finished and sometimes a little longer. Life just gets in the way. LOL.

Hope you enjoy your new books!

  7. The Sunburn novel looks pretty alluring. We’ve been watching the 6 part series on Patty Hearst on CNN (Sundays) and it’s been pretty good but not as good the Jeff Toobin book about that. We’ll need a new series after. Lately my reading has been a bit slow but hopefully pick up with An American Marriage. Enjoy your week.

    1. Thanks for visiting, Susan, and I’ve watched the first episode of the Patty Hearst series (on Amazon Prime). I really enjoyed the Jeff Toobin book.

I am eager to start reading Sunburn…once I finish some other books first. I’m looking forward to An American Marriage.

I’m not a big fan of watching the Olympics either. I’d rather have my TV shows to watch 🙂 I almost got the Barbara Delinsky book from NetGalley but I resisted. Enjoy your books and have a great week1

I’m glad the Olympics are over too, even though we didn’t watch much of it. But I do love watching the figure skating and the snow boarding. I haven’t been to NetGalley in a while so I’ll need to check out the ones you received. I hope you have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Laura, I’m glad you enjoyed the part you watched. I, on the other hand, ignored the events completely, still annoyed that they were taking up so much screen time…LOL. At least they are better than news conferences, which barge in whenever they please!

Have a great week, and enjoy your reading.

  10. We didn’t watch the Olympics here either. Only saw the news highlights.
Two books is just fine, especially when you enjoy them.
I see you got the new Delinsky book. I hope you enjoy that and all your new books.
    Happy Reading!

  11. I usually watch a lot of the Olympics but this year I just wasn’t feeling it, so I’m right there with you, glad it’s over! 🙂
I’ve had my eyes on both Sunburn and the French Girl. Both have intriguing premises. Hope you enjoy both of them! Happy reading!

  12. My whole month of reading has been slow. Between books that I had trouble getting into and adopting a couple of kittens life has been busy. I’m glad the Olympics are over too. I enjoy them, but since I don’t have cable and where I am I can’t pick up anything on an antenna I haven’t been able to watch any of it. Happy Reading! Donna from Girl Who Reads

    1. Good to know, Kathy…I remember years ago I used to pretend to enjoy these events because of friends/family…but no more! LOL.

Enjoy your week! Delinsky was one of my favorite authors pre-blogging, and I feel that I’ve neglected her books after finding all these new authors. Her books do feel like going home; the familiarity is comforting.

Ohh I loved the good fight (as well as the good wife). Thanks for the heads up about season 2. Unfortunately TV is such a waste of time, but a girls got to have vice.

  14. I loved Parenthood and will probably watch it again someday. Lots of tear-jerker episodes, though! Really tugs at your heartstrings. And what a great cast! I haven’t watched This Is Us, but I plan to one of these days. We’ve been watching a lot of Broadchurch, Vera, and Endeavor. Great, great shows! We didn’t watch ANY of the Olympics, either. I know a lot of people love to watch, but I’ve never been a big fan. Ah, Marie Callenders! We don’t have one anywhere near here, but my brothers used to work at one in San Diego (Del Mar area) many, many years ago. They were allowed to bring home the “expired” pies (usually the strawberry), which were delicious!

    1. I do love This Is Us…and I’m a fan of Broadchurch, too. I’ll have to check out Vera.

Parenthood is definitely one of my comfort shows to watch.

Thanks for visiting, Les, and I can’t imagine not having a Marie Callender’s near us.

      Enjoy your week!
