Welcome to another Coffee Chat, featuring our bookish and not so bookish thoughts, hosted by Bookishly Boisterous.
How is it already the second week in January? My reading has been somewhat slow this week; I finally finished my second book, and I’m now reading Anatomy of a Scandal, by Sarah Vaughan, which promises to be riveting.
- First, however, I read and reviewed I Am Watching You, by Teresa Driscoll, a page turner. (Click title for my review).
- My second book was Jane Fonda: The Private Life of a Public Woman, by Patricia Bosworth, which kept me intrigued throughout. (Click title for review). I started it last week, so it took me longer than usual (600 pages!).
- As I read the Fonda book, I started downloading some of her old movies from Amazon Prime that I hadn’t seen in a while: Klute, Sunday in New York, Barefoot in the Park…
- Then I collected the movies I already have on DVD, like The Morning After and Agnes of God…I’ll be binge-watching these.
- On Netflix, I added the movie Mudbound, which was based on a book I read in 2012, by Hillary Jordan. When I heard that there was a movie, I had to add it to my list.
- Did anyone enjoy Oprah’s speech at the Golden Globes? Powerful!
- On Monday night, I recorded Stephen Colbert’s interview with Michael Wolff...and watched it last night.
- Judging from this post, you might notice that I do a lot of TV/Movie Watching…or planning to watch. Almost as if I have nothing else to do! Here are a couple of my stacks on a table.
- My plans to binge-watch are usually overly ambitious…as I manage to read for a while, watch for a while, and then I’m off to dreamland…
- So…now I’m planning to curl up on my office couch with my book…

I’m struggling a bit myself this month (so far). School only went back this week so this is the first few days of being back in my routine and it’s hard. Hoping it gets better!

My husband is a movie fan and watches netflix regularly. I’m more a fan of reading (shocking, I know!). I keep meaning to watch The Crown. My daughters highly recommend it. One show I’ve been watching is This is Us. I like it.

Thanks for stopping by, Mary, and I LOVE The Crown. Binge-watched the second season in one day. I think you might enjoy it.
I also adore This is Us. I get so emotional in some of those scenes. I started watching because of Justin Hartley, who portrays Kevin. He was a beloved character on Young & the Restless…another one of my addictions. LOL
I try to balance my reading with my addiction to TV/Movies…I know that the addiction stems from my younger years, when my parents controlled the TV and didn’t allow movies. So when I had my own kids, we all went to the movies and rented movies…and Son #2 works in the movie industry.
It is so true how our childhoods inform our later years…

Sounds as though you have everything you need and you are staying in! We are supposed to get tons of rain…not sure what that will do to my pixie cut…so we are staying in, too. This is a huge football weekend…Den just told me that fact! I may be hibernating upstairs!

We’ve had some rain lately, but not today; it was a good day to go out. Thanks for visiting, Patty. Enjoy your cozy evening.

Sounds like a fun week. I’ve been catching up on some Hallmark Christmas movies I had recorded and doing a bit of reading. This week has been more work than anything. Yuck. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week.

Thanks for stopping by, Cheryl, and I finally finished watching all the Christmas Hallmark movies on my DVR. This was the first year that I really got into them. I think I really needed their happy and light-hearted drama.
Enjoy the rest of your week, too.

Barefoot in the Park has always been one of my favorite movies. Klute was a Jeopardy answer a few nights ago and I thought to myself, I need to watch that again. I am trying to decide if I want to read or listen to Anatomy of A Scandal.

Thanks for visiting, Nise, and I, too loved Barefoot in the Park. Jane Fonda and Robert Redford have been great together in a few movies over the years, with the most recent one the Netflix movie of Our Souls at Night.
I am loving Anatomy of a Scandal…and I bet you would like it.

My mom loves Jane Fonda and really enjoyed that book. I didn’t realize Mudbound is on Netflix – I’d like to see it and read the book. I LOVED Oprah’s speech!

Thanks for stopping by, Kathy, and I realized Mudbound was on Netflix after the Golden Globes, when I was on Google! I remember loving the book…and now I will watch the movie on Netflix.
I was in tears listening to Oprah’s speech. She inspired everyone in the audience, and many others, too.
