Blogging is a big part of my days. I’m at my laptop blogging most mornings, but also some evenings. I love posting on my six blogs, and I enjoy visiting a variety of blogs.
What do you look for in a blog? What makes you decide to follow?
I’ve read some posts about this topic, so I thought I would personalize it for myself, writing about what draws me into a blog…or what puts me off.
WHAT I LOVE IN A BLOG:
- Being a visual person, I am attracted to the themes, headers, and text in a site. I want my eye to land on pretty things, some kind of organization, and a user-friendly space.
- I notice what’s in a sidebar, and hopefully will discover what I need to know to follow the blogger; I also like to discover who that blogger is, via an “about” page, or through something in that sidebar.
- Of course I want to learn more about the blogger’s taste in books, and I enjoy the occasional discussion post that makes me want to have a conversation with the blogger.

That’s pretty much it for me…I’m not just drawn to similar tastes in books, etc., as I relish the opportunity to stretch, and to go outside my comfort zone…a little. I also want to be able to chat with other bloggers.
WHAT TURNS ME OFF:
I really don’t like talking about negatives, but…I cringe at loud noises, so blaring music will scare me away and keep me away. LOL
Text is important. If it is hard to read, I’m leaving…and quickly.
I love stuff in the sidebar, but if it is chaotic, I probably won’t find what I’m looking for.
So…that’s pretty much it.
What do you think? Do you have items you look for in blogs? Do you find your own special “people” using certain criteria?
Come on by and let’s chat about it.

I think I just like finding a common thread with fellow bloggers! Like you!

Yes, that is the way I find other bloggers, too. Thanks for visiting, Patty.

I agree. I don’t like a lot of chaos and I want to be able to follow and comment easily. Why do you have six different blogs?

Ha-ha, well, that’s a long story, Heather. In the beginning I had one, then two, and then I discovered Word Press and had such fun creating blogs, that at one point, I had TWENTY! Yes, well, that didn’t last long, and I’ve gradually reduced the number to six. Each site represents a different aspect of my personality, if you will. Quirky things, bookish things, etc. Thanks for visiting.

I guess we all connect when we find something common, be it likes or dislikes, in each other’s blogs 🙂

I am with you on loud music. I am a person who likes a lot of quiet! Often or mostly my house is silent!! I hate these floaty notices that appear – very annoying and I dislike black backgrounds. I like decent print as well although if I am really interested I will enlarge with a swipe of my finger on the key pad! I think it would be very hard to find a blogger with exactly the same taste in reading, we are all so different yet share overlaps here and there which is what I like.

Yes, the differences in tastes are the least of it for me…but those loud noises and hard to read print can scare me away. Thanks for stopping by, Kathryn, and enjoy your week.

I love finding bloggers with the same reading tastes as me, like you (for many books).

I’m always surprised how many people say that an About Me page is important to them. I don’t have one – just a short blurb in my sidebar. Guess I should change that!

Actually, an About Me page or a blurb works for me. I like finding something that tells me who the blogger is. A little tidbit or two. LOL. Thanks for stopping by, Nicole.

It really surprises me when I can’t see an About me/About this blog section. Like yiu I want to know who is behind the blog and why it exists. I want to feel there is a real person behind all the pictures and texts.

Definitely! Sometimes I find myself spending way too much time searching a blog, just to find out the author’s first name (even if it’s not the real name! Something to call the person). Thanks for stopping by, Karen.
