A DAY IN THE LIFE – MARCH 24

A-Day-in-the-Life

It’s been a rather ordinary and somewhat boring day today, March 24, my chosen A Day in the Life, hosted by Trish, at Love, Laughter, & a Touch of Insanity.
This is my first time participating, and my day got off to a rather early start, as I had some problems sleeping last night.
So here goes:
2:30 a.m.- Woke up, knowing I wouldn’t be able to go back to sleep right away, so I staggered out to the living room, curled up under a blanket, and tried to read.

napping place
4:30 a.m. – Woke up and stumbled into the kitchen to make coffee.

coffee! a day in a life

4:45 a.m. – Turned on the computer, waiting for it to boot up, impatiently as usual.  Did my usual morning routines:  checked e-mails, online banking, Facebook, etc.  All’s right in my little world!

computer time-a day in a life

5:30 a.m. – Wrote my Bookish Thursday post; checked out the various links, and then visited participants’ blogs, commenting on them.  My favorite thing in the morning.

more computer time

6:30 a.m. – Visited several blogs, reading their A Day in the Life posts…really enjoyable.  As I drank my coffee and ate some cereal, I started taking some photos for this post, and got the notice that my camera card was full!  Yikes.  Spent some time deleting photos that are already on my computer.

6:40 a.m. – Read some more A Day in the Life posts.

7:30 a.m. – Checked e-mails and found more posts to read, comments to respond to.
7:50 a.m. – Closed down the computer, bringing my iPhone into the living room so I can periodically check things out.

7:55 a.m. – Curled up on my sofa to continue reading Somewhere Out There, a really engrossing story that resonates with me, having worked with dysfunctional families for many years.

8:00 a.m. – Ate some Greek yogurt and had some juice.

8:30 a.m. – Checked e-mails and FB on my iPhone.  TV is on to the Home & Family Show on Hallmark…but muted.

8:45 a.m. – Resumed reading.

9:00 a.m. – Got on exercise bike and rode for a while, watching Castle on my DVR.

a little exercise and dvr time
10:00 a.m. – More reading.
10:45 a.m. – Lunch prep.
11:00 a.m.– 12:00 p.m. – Lunch break, along with Young & the Restless.

an early lunch

young and restless time

12:00 p.m. – Back on computer to check e-mails, etc.
12:30 p.m. – Called pharmacist to discuss the problems I’m STILL having with the new meds, and after some discussion, decided to resume taking the previous meds, which worked great…so why did the doctor have to try to fix what wasn’t broken?  LOL.  Sent doctor an e-mail to advise her of my plan.  See, I’m in charge…right?  The pharmacist had assured me that there wouldn’t be any problems from stopping these meds and returning to the old ones.

1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. – Watching shows on my DVR.
2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. – More e-mails, blog visiting, and did some photo editing for this post.
3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. – More reading.
5:00 p.m. – 6:00 – Dinner break.
6:00 p.m. – Almost finished with my book; wrote up a rudimentary review on a Word doc, to be finished when I reach the last page of the book.
7:30 p.m. – Finished book; posted review on Amazon, Goodreads, and my Rainy Days & Mondays blog.
8:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. – Watching the TGIT shows by Shonda Rhimes.

bedtime reading and movies
10:00 – More reading…lights out around 11:00 p.m.

And that’s it for a day in the life of this blogger!

  1. Fun day for you! Not boring for me to read. I like to see how other bloggers get through their day and this feature has been lots of fun to read all week.

I see you have sleep issues also. Doesn’t seem like you get that much sleep 😦
You did get a lot of different things done during the day though, very efficiently. Reading, blogging, tv watching, exercising… and you’re right to make the decisions about your medicine if you didn’t need it switched. We know our bodies best and what’s the purpose of a medication that makes you feel poorly instead of helping? Glad you straightened that out.

Thanks for sharing your day and your thoughts. I found it very interesting! And I’m going to look for the Hatvany book coming up very soon. I like her style of writing and the plot sounds good.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Rita, I also have fun reading these posts…and as for sleep, I noticed that sleep disturbances were a big side effect from the new meds…last night, after having it out of my system for a whole day, I slept all the way through until 6:15 this morning! I try to get 7 hours of sleep, but sometimes I wake up and read and go back to sleep.

Doctor read about the minute possibility of a side effect from my old medication, and overreacted, IMO, wanting to shake things up. The pharmacist negated that reaction on her part, without really being disrespectful.

I always enjoy Hatvany, and I loved this book.

  2. Oh I am not doing this but have loved reading a few of the posts. Should watch out for when she does it again. Oh dear I don’t know how you kept going with such little and poor sleep that night. I struggle at times and then I am just so dozy the next day – hate it!

    1. I struggled, Kathryn, and it was a hard day to do this exercise, but it helped keep my on track…and I knew that I could always take a nap and write NAP in my diary! LOL. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Laurel, I enjoyed reading about your day. Sorry about the sleep issues, but it seems that many of us struggle with that from time to time. I do myself and it’s OK, unless it goes on for too long. I have a deal with myself – we normally get up at 5AM – but, if I wake up at 4 or after (between 4 and 5), I let myself go ahead and get up and don’t struggle to sleep again. If it’s before 4, I try to go back to sleep. Lately, I’ve been on a ‘before 5’ schedule, but it will shift around. Think that the changing time messed with my sleep routine, even though it was ‘spring forward’. I don’t know. Anyway….glad you shared with us. 🙂

    1. I would have tried to sleep more, but I was struggling with the discomfort from the medications and needed to be semi-upright. As the day went on, things improved. You might have noticed my very bland diet…LOL.

Thanks for stopping by, Kay, and yes, getting older does bring its challenges, but luckily, being retired makes it easier to deal with them!

    1. Thanks, Laurie…I take notes while I read, and I don’t always start writing on a Word doc before I’m done…unless it’s a book with a lot of detail that I want to pull together in some kind of concise fashion. I have to post a review right after finishing, (my obsessiveness!), and this is my best way of making it happen. LOL

I’m hopeful about the meds…feeling much better today. Thanks for stopping by.

  4. Your day sounds fabulous, really. I need a day like that. Unfortunately, it won’t happen until next weekend. Too much going on with Easter this weekend. Thanks for stopping by my blog! 😀

  5. Sorry the change of medication caused issues. It is always hard to understand why a Dr. wants to switch when everything is just fine! Hope now that you switched back things get back to normal and blessed sleep returns. Looking forward to Amy Hatvany’s newest.

    1. I am already feeling better, Nise, and I get frustrated by doctors wanting to prescribe the new and shiny drugs…LOL. It makes me wonder.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy Hatvany’s new book, too, and thanks for stopping by.

  7. Oof, tough to be awake so early, but sometimes there’s nothing better than a quiet house and a cup of coffee for getting through a lot of tasks in the morning. And nothing is better than a day with a lot of reading! Lovely!

  8. I enjoyed reading about your day. As a pharmacist, I was especially pleased that your pharmacist was able to help and advise about the medication change. Hope you weren’t awake at 2:30 AM the next day, too!

    1. Thanks, JoAnn, and I’m pleased to learn you are a pharmacist. I have great respect for the knowledge you have…and know that I can learn more from a pharmacist than the doctor about the meds they prescribe.

      In my experience, anyway.

I slept well the next night, and each night since.

  9. I love that you are able to start your day with some blog reading and just catching up. I wish I could do that but then I guess I’d be late to work 🙂 So happy to get to know you and read about a day in your life!

    1. Thanks, Iliana, I love starting my day like that, too….and can’t even imagine trying to blog when working a full day outside the home. Of course I didn’t know what I was missing when I was doing my full-time outside career…as I didn’t start a blog until post-retirement.

  10. That’s a late night for such terrible sleep the night before. Every once in a while I’m struck with insomnia and I wonder if I should get up and read or try to get back to sleep. Just depends on the night!

Love your little computer nook! These days IF I’m able to get to the computer, I do so on the kitchen table. Not really distraction free! Thanks for sharing your day with us. 🙂

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Trish…and for hosting this delightful event. Yes, I had some issues with my meds the days before…all solved now.

I rearranged my office space with the nook, to open up the room for house guests. It was fun to change it up…and I feel kind of cozy in there now.

I have also spent time on my dining room table, but mostly when guests are in my office/guest room.

    1. I only get up that early when I can’t sleep, like during that three weeks on the new medication. I am angry at the doctor for not listening to me…and it took me putting my foot down to change things.

She thought that there might be a slight risk associated with long term use of the old meds, but since I haven’t had those symptoms and the new meds created a TON of side effects and made me miserable…well, the answer seems obvious.

Thanks, Kathy, and I am feeling 100% again.
