Christmas in 2010 brought the lovely Sparky (shown above) into my life. Not only does this wonderful little e-reader make it easier to read while traveling, even if the travels are just to the neighborhood coffee shop, what is most amazing to me is how quickly I can add books to my shelves.
My virtual shelves are not as visible, therefore resulting in some languishing of wonderful books that are “out of sight, out of mind.”
Since the rules for my Mt. TBR Challenge also allow us to add books from our e-readers when creating our lists, I thought I should try to organize them all a little better.
What to do? Well, I have “collections” for my books read on Sparky, so why not collections listing purchase dates? Wouldn’t that make it easier to keep track? I think it would. So my project today was to first itemize e-books purchased by dates, and then compile them in the appropriate collection.
Not as difficult as I thought it would be. Because I list all books purchased by date on Curl up and Read, I went there first for my notations. Then I created the collections for 2012 and 2013…luckily, those specifically purchased during those years were not as numerous as I had expected.
Done and done!
Now I can happily check out those collections first when deciding what to read next!

AN INTERIOR JOURNEY 
Great idea!! I have so many freebie books that I download, all the time! Those, in addition to purchases I make, it can be quite overwhelming! Nook has an e-friendly way to organize: by date, titles, or authors. I tend to organize by authors, in case I have more than one book and I don’t have to go searching for the next one in a series 😉 Great post!!

Oh I have a Nook with a kindle app on it..and lords above and below they are a mess. Sometimes I go to buy a book and don’t realize I own it till the site says it appears you own this..bwahahaha. You have inspired me to organize!

I put my books into folders on my eReader in genre but also have a spreadsheet which lists them in current priority order by title and author so I can choose easily.

I have a kindle and its a ‘mess’. I have never looked into organising it and dread the thought. However there are books bought with enthusiasm and forgotten about on it!! I should see if I can organise. Thank goodness Amazon tells me I have bought a book and when if I try to buy it again!
I must look into organising though. My Kindle is pretty old, so not sure if it allows it.

I read on an iPad which allows me to move the books around easily. My technique is simple and probably lame, but I just move the books I’ve read to the bottom. Sometimes it’s a nice surprise to scroll down and find an unread book I’d forgotten!

On my Kindle I have the books sorted into folders- review; purchased; freebies; series; priority reads and finished
I read my non mobi pubs on my ipad using Stanza and have a similar setup, but I can use tags with that as well
In general I keep track of my ebooks on Goodreads and in BookCollectorz along with my print collection 🙂

I have a first gen Nook Color add organize my shelves as Read and To-Read. I often times forget about my eBooks because I can’t see them every day like I can my physical to-read piles which is a bookshelf in my bedroom right next to my bed. I wish there was an easy way to print out the covers of my eBooks so I could put them in a binder and SEE them!

These are some great tips! I have way too many books now on my Nook, so it is hard to keep track lol. If I have a review for a tour I mark it on my calendar when a review is due and setup alerts to 2 weeks before the date. And I’m also concentrating on my Netgalley ARCs, so I sort by publication date to see what I should read next. Its crazy and hopefully I can get to the books I actually purchased lol.

I was used to working with ‘collections’ on my previous kindles but with the kindle fire you have to buy an app (which annoys me) and from the feedback it seems to have a few issues so I’ve given it a miss. I put ARC’s and next in line books from my TBR list on the carousel which is way easier than looking through hundreds of books via the alphabetised author or title option. The carousel is good but I do miss the collections.

Oh, that sucks, Teddyree…I was wondering which Kindle I should upgrade to when this one dies…knock wood! Even the paperwhite has problems with collections, I heard….

I use the collections but only keep a limited number of books – current reads and hope to reads – on the Kindle. The rest are in my Library at Amazon and I go in and review by year now and then to pick some that interest me. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

You certainly are more organized than me. Like BOOKS IN THE BURBS commented, I simply file mine by author. Most of the ones I know I will never read again (mostly bad freebies and from authors I have no connection with), I assign to the cloud…to save room on my KF.
