MONDAY FROM THE INTERIOR: MAILBOX MONDAY & WHAT ARE YOU READING? — APRIL 23

Welcome to another Monday from the Interior, in which we share about the books we received in the mail (or bought), and talk about our bookish week, past and future.

For April, Mailbox Monday is hosted by Cindy’s Love of Books.

Sheila, at Book Journey, brings us What Are You Reading?

MAILBOX MONDAY:

This week’s mailbox was of my own making.  I downloaded a book I found on someone’s mailbox last week…and found the other one in the bookstore.

Here they are!

1.  Rain (e-book), by Leigh K. Cunningham

Winner, Literary Fiction category, 2011 Indie Excellence Awards.
Silver medalist, 2011 Independent Publisher Awards (IPPY), Regional Fiction: Australia/New Zealand.

Set in provincial Australia in the early sixties, Rain is a multigenerational family saga that chronicles the lives of three generations of the Wallin sawmilling dynasty. It explores the often difficult but enduring ties between mothers and daughters, men and women: the sacrifices, compromises, and patterns of emotion that repeat themselves through generations.

In a journey that spans four decades and crosses the globe, Rain is an epic tale of the choices and consequences that comprise one family’s history. By turn dark and amusing, Rain delivers an emotionally charged revelation about love, loss, guilt, self-discovery and redemption. The enduring question of family bonds, escapable or not, divides, conquers, and triumphs.

2.  The Witness, by Nora Roberts

Daughter of a controlling mother, Elizabeth finally let loose one night, drinking at a nightclub and allowing a strange man’s seductive Russian accent lure her to a house on Lake Shore Drive. The events that followed changed her life forever.

Twelve years later, the woman known as Abigail Lowery lives on the outskirts of a small town in the Ozarks. A freelance programmer, she designs sophisticated security  systems—and supplements her own security with a fierce dog and an assortment of firearms. She keeps to herself, saying little, revealing nothing. But Abigail’s reserve only intrigues police chief Brooks Gleason. Her logical mind, her secretive nature, and her unromantic viewpoints leave him fascinated but frustrated. He suspects that Abigail needs protection from something—and that her elaborate defenses hide a story that must be revealed.

With a quirky, unforgettable heroine and a pulse-pounding plotline, Nora Roberts presents a riveting new read that cements her place as today’s most reliably entertaining thriller
author—and will leave people hungering for more.

WHAT ARE YOU READING?

Welcome to another Monday in which we explore the previous week, while taking a look at the upcoming one.  We get to visit other blogs and find books that will go on our wish lists.

Some of you may have joined in on the Dewey’s Read-a-Thon, so you’re probably pretty tired right now.  I know I am!

I fizzled out before it was even over, but I feel like I accomplished enough….

Here are some books read and/or started:

1.  Heiress without a Cause, by Sara Ramsey (Read the final 209 pages)

2.  The Return of Edgar Cayce, by C. Terry Cline, Jr. (Read whole book – 160 pages)

3.  The Accidental, by Ali Smith (still reading it!  Have read 60 pages so far)

So, to sum up:  I finished two books and started another, for a total of 429 pages in 7.5 hours.

    1. I think mine did cross over, Laura…they were definitely blurring and itching….I had to quit at 9 p.m. Imagine how many books I could have read if that hadn’t happened! lol

Thanks for visiting, and enjoy your week.

  2. I am currently reading The Witness, my first foray into Nora Roberts’s romantic suspense novels. I hope you enjoy it when you read it. I want to read The Beginner’s Goodbye and the Lisa Scottoline book too.

It was fun participating in the read-a-thon but I had to stop when my vision got all blurry around 1 this morning. I planned to sleep for a little while and then get up early to keep reading but that didn’t happen. I guess I needed to sleep in:) I’m glad you were able to make progress on your TBR pile too.

    1. My eyes blurred up on me, too, Christina T….sadly, that pretty much killed it for me. But I like how the read-a-thon boosted my week’s totals. Thanks for stopping by, and I’m really looking forward to the books on my list.

I love a good family saga.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting…and thanks for the coffee and chocolate!

  3. The Beginner’s Goodbye looks like a fantastic read. I’m new to Nora Roberts. I’m currently listening to book 2 of her Bride Quartet series. Also, I’m looking forward to reading Scottoline’s Come Home. You had quite the busy week!

    1. Thanks, Shonda…Yes, I love Scottoline’s books…and Anne Tyler’s, too. Can’t wait to plunge in.

I actually have the Quartet series sitting on the desk in my bedroom…I want to read it, but I know that I’ll have to read all four, one after the other.

      Too much?

Glad you could stop by, and have a great week.

    1. Sarah, what I like most about the read-a-thons are that we can read as much or as little as we wish. So I didn’t actually read that long. But it felt like it, so I think I will do it differently next time. Thanks for stopping by.

I haven’t read any of your MM’s but have come across Nora Roberts usually on the shelves of charity shops. Obviously popular.

    1. Mary, that’s when I decided to order it…I’d seen it around and kept feeling drawn to it; then seeing it on your blog was the last straw! lol

It’s on Sparky, my Kindle…so it will be beckoning to me every time I open it.

Thanks for stopping by…have a great week.

    1. I enjoy Tyler…her characters are so unique and quirky, and she features the ordinary people we might meet. Several of her books have been made into movies; sometimes for the big screen and some for TV. I think my favorite was The Accidental Tourist.

I think I’m going to love Rain, too….Thanks for visiting, Karen.
