MONDAY MEMES: MAILBOX & WHAT ARE YOU READING? — SEPT. 19

Let's Curl up and Read!

Welcome to another edition of our Monday Memes:  Mailbox Monday, hosted this month by Amused by Books; and What Are You Reading?, led by Sheila, at Book Journey.

In these events, we celebrate our love of books.  First, we shout out about the books we’ve received in the mail and/or purchased during the week.

Then we turn our thoughts to what we’ve been reading and blogging about in the past week, and what we plan to read next.

MAILBOX MONDAY

One book came into my house this week, and it was one I purchased.

The Grief of Others, by Leah Hager Cohen, is a story about the complex bonds of family.

“How does a family transcend its own pain? How do the secrets we keep shape our lives and the lives of those we love? In this gracefully written, elegantly structured novel, Leah Hager Cohen has created an indelible cast of characters whose story is at once wrenching and redemptive. This is a beautiful book.”
-Dani Shapiro, author of Family History

The Grief of Others is a gorgeous, absorbing, intricately told tale of one family on the brink of collapse, as well as an intimate exploration of art and its place in our lives. Leah Hager Cohen expertly juggles six characters and all their needs, yearning, wounds, and secrets with tremendous skill and- even more important-deep and tender compassion. She is a masterly writer on every level.”
-Lily King, author of Father of the Rain

And, of course, I’m still rereading The Handmaid’s Tale, by Margaret Atwood…I’m about 1/4 way finished.

I have a feeling I’ll be savoring this one for awhile, since I will be reading one book left over from last week and three new ones!

What are you all savoring this week?  What did you love about last week’s reads?  Please share….

    • Yes, I read it awhile ago, so this reread is an exploration for me…to see if I find anything I missed the first time or look at things differently. I know that it blew my mind…and frightened me about what could actually happen. Thanks for stopping by, RAnn.

  1. I’ve been reading the “Great Brain,” series, by John Fitzgerald. I’m almost done with the second book in the series. Very funny, amusing stories related by a child, about his brother’s great brain and life in a small town in Utah in the late 1800..
