Good morning, and welcome to our Monday Memes, in which we join together to talk about books, blogging, connecting with others throughout the blogosphere.
For November, Mailbox Monday is hosted by Knitting and Sundries.
What Are You Reading? is hosted by Sheila, of Book Journey.
MAILBOX MONDAY:
This week, nothing arrived in my mailbox, but on Saturday, I found two books on the bargain table at Barnes & Noble.
1) Knit Two, by Kate Jacobs, is a follow-up to The Friday Night Knitting Club, and opens five years after Georgia Walker’s tragic death from ovarian cancer. Her daughter, Dakota, is now a freshman at NYU, and Georgia’s former employee, Peri, is running Georgia’s yarn shop, Walker and Daughter.
2) Smoke Screen, by Sandra Brown, is a mystery/thriller that opens with TV personality Britt Shelley waking up in bed with a dead police detective, with no memory of how they got there.
****
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?
Past Week’s Adventures:
1) Completed NaNoWriMo Challenge!
2) Interviewed Author Lynda Fitzgerald
Read and Reviewed Last Week-(Click Title for Review):
1) By Nightfall, by Michael Cunningham
2) The Dead Lie Down, by Sophie Hannah
Ongoing:
1) Solomon’s Oak, by Jo-Ann Mapson
What’s Up Next?
1) South of Broad, by Pat Conroy
2) Garnethill, by Denise Mina
A tale that spotlights a tightly knit group of high school outsiders…spanning two turbulent decades….
A woman wakes up one morning to find her therapist boyfriend dead in the middle of her living room—and she’s the prime suspect.
What have you chosen to read this week? What did you buy or receive in the mail? Hope you’ll stop by and share.
My grandmother read the prequel to Knit Two and enjoyed it – my personal experience with knitting has left me with no desire to read any book having to do with it, but I hope you enjoy it! 🙂

Oh, I can relate to your experiences with knitting! I tried it and decided after considerable effort that it wasn’t for me! But I do love the books that feature women meeting to knit and talk…it’s the talking part that I enjoy!
Thanks for stopping by, Kate.

Nice mailbox. I thought Knit Two was a decent follow-up to Friday Night Knitting Club. I read the first book and although there is knitting within the story it really isn’t about the knitting 😉
LikeLike
I agree, Mary…the knitting seemed secondary to the main focus of women connecting and sharing their lives.
Thanks for stopping by.

I love finding bargains, Kathy. I went into Barnes & Noble to get some books for my youngest grandson (he’s 7 and loves the Captain Underpants books!), but somehow I got distracted by the bargain tables…LOL.
Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks for sharing that, Kaye…I loved the first book about the Knitting Club, and I’ve enjoyed many Sandra Brown books over the years. I even saw a Made for TV movie of Smoke Screen last week. So I’m really looking forward to both books.

I didn’t get any books in the mail last week either – that’s okay… I have plenty! HA
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with family.
NaNoWriMo – do you feel you have something to build from? You should be so proud of yourself, big accomplishment!

Thanks for stopping by, Mari. Yes, I did have a wonderful holiday, but now I’m ready to settle into normal routines until the next one!
I do feel that my NaNoWriMo project is something I can build on…it was a story that had been mulling around in my head for awhile. And though I’ll need to add to it and tweak it quite a bit, I think it has potential.
Of course, I may feel differently once I start the edits, but that time and effort can also be an opportunity to create something I can use (or publish!).

I received for review Season of Seduction by Jennifer Haymore from The Book Tree.
Although the widowed Lady Rebecca has sworn off marriage, men are another matter. London’s cold winter nights have her dreaming of warmer pursuits-like finding a lover to satisfy her hungry heart. Someone handsome, discreet, and most importantly as uninterested in marriage as she is. Someone like Jack Fulton.
A known adventurer and playboy, Jack seems like the perfect choice. There’s just one problem: Jack isn’t interested in an affair. He needs the beautiful, mysterious Lady Rebecca to be his wife. And he doesn’t have much time to persuade her. A secret from Jack’s past is about to surface, and by Christmas Day he’ll be either married to Rebecca or dead.

I received for review A Very Simple Crime by Grant Jerkins from Berkley Trade.
A twisting debut novel of murder and dark family secrets from a riveting new voice in crime fiction.
A murdered woman. A grieving husband. And their son-a mentally handicapped adult with a history of violent outbursts. A very simple case. Or is it?
Leo Hewitt, an Assistant DA once blamed for setting free a notorious child-killer, is eager to redeem himself with this intimate and grisly crime. As he digs below the surface he discovers more than he ever anticipated-including an emotionally disturbed wife, a husband who’d do anything to escape his disastrous marriage, and an accused young man with no apparent means of defense. But with each shocking new revelation, Leo is only led deeper and deeper into the darkness-an inescapable trap of blood bonds and twisted family secrets.

Thanks for stopping by my site, I agree that most of Lauren Weisberger’s novels were good. The Devil Wears Prada was excellent, but Chasing Harry Winston fell a little flat. Last Night at Chateau…was much better than Harry Winston, but not quite as good as The Devil Wears Prada!

Thanks, Tara…glad you could stop by. Chasing Harry Winston was the one I didn’t like as much as the others.

Those bargain tables are why I have been avoiding B&N lately. They get me in trouble but who can pass up book bargains! I have the Friday Night Knitting Club but have not gotten to it yet. I think there might be a Christmas story out too that goes with the series. I wonder if we could find that on a bargain table! Have a great reading week!

And they have such great coffee…LOL

I love what’s on your plate for this week’s reading adventures. It also reminds me to finally get to “Prince of Tides”. 🙂 Conroy’s prose is simply beautiful and I have yet to remember why it is I haven’t completed reading the one work of his I own and started reading a while ago.
Heading over to check out your reviews now.
