MUSING MONDAYS — OCT. 25

Over at Should Be Reading, our host has posed a question that scared me…just a bit.  LOL

About how many books (roughly) would you say you own? (If you don’t have a clue how many, do you care to know? Why, or why not?)

Let me tell you this.  I have books everywhere!  Shelves in the dining room, pantry, hallway, office, bedroom—like I said, everywhere.  Just eyeballing those, plus the toppling stacks that hover over various bookcases, I’d guess about…2,000.

That’s probably a conservative guess, too.  Of those, about 150-160 are in the TBR category.

I did start keeping track of the latter group and started my Curl up and Read blog to document the journey.

I’m feeling a bit more in control….

I wish that I had devised some kind of system to know what I have on my various shelves. They are alphabetically arranged, but because there are SO many shelves (six in the bedroom alone!), it’s hard to know where an individual book might be hiding.

My dream is for one big room just for books, with all of them alphabetically arranged (and catalogued).  I know a place like that!  Sheila has a reading room, which you can read about HERE.

But as much as I want my own library or reading room, I think I would miss the ambience of being surrounded by shelves everywhere I go.

I guess I’ll just leave it alone….

What about the rest of you?  It’s ten o’clock, do you know where your books (children) are?

  1. I have a small corner of my bedroom for my little home library. It is also beginning to overflow into the Livingroom, on a bookshelf I have there. The nightstand holds some of my most recently read books. The spare bedroom has bookshelves of books and odds and ends of things. My husband suggested this morning that we box up a lot of the books we won’t be reading and store them in the garage. I agreed with that plan, than I will have room for new books. LOL….

    1. Oh, thanks for stopping by, Cheryl…now if only I could somehow document what I have!

I know…I could list them all and type them up, but that would take a LOT of time.

Lately I’ve been going through files and shredding stuff, which is no fun, but probably kind of important…

  2. I converted my dining room into a library..as I have a eat in kitchen…even though my family is more of a tv tray in front of the tv type of family. Not to mention, my son and daughter are ususally never home. Check out my Musing ON Monday answer.

  3. My guest room is filled with all my books, but there is no rhyme or reason to them. I wish I had cataloged them better or arranged them alphabetically by author. There are too many to do that now.
